Bluray Media. Purchasing and experiences

Bluray media is still an establishing market.
Prices, and perhaps quality, vary quite a bit, but as yet there has been no collective community experience expressed about this issue.

So this is a dedicated thread where users of bluray recorders are requested and welcome to share their media buying experiences.

Anything you think may be relevant or helpful to would-be purchasers is welcome.

Points that may be relevant are:

Brand
Manufacturer if known
BD-R or BD-RE
25 or 50GB [ or even 100GB]
Max burning speed.
Price

Retailer or supplier. Speed of delivery. Purchasing experience

...and most importantly, any problems that have arisen with the discs.

I've always used Panasonic 25 packs - 6 x speed 25 gb. About £1.40 per disc
Panasonic BD-R 25GB Blu-Ray Printable (25 Spindle) | TotalBlankMedia.com

If anyone knows a better deal, please post.

I've never had problems with these discs.

When I've bought other brands of discs, I noticed a real slow down in the speed to record, so be warned the speed of the disc does seem to make a difference

I should add my own Bluray purchasing experience - with a quote from elsewhere, which dates back to January of 2011:
Certainly the bluray disc marketplace is difficult to understand.

Disc speed tends to be a measure of how recent discs were produced.

The best price I have found so far for discs which are bizarrely faster and significantly cheaper than other slower discs even from the same dealer...were some I bought last week from 'Annova'

Panasonic 25Gb 6X speed BD-R's @ £16.33 for a spindle of 10

Just seen reference to this on another thread. I bought 10 Maxell Printable Blu-ray 4x Spd BD-R Recordable DISC on Ebay (aprmedia) for £13.95. Seem OK but I discovered with DVD's that some can decay over time, so who knows.

Aone 4x BD-R 25gb Blu-Ray Discs - Inkjet Printable 10 Pack Spindle

From Ebuyer 10 Pak £8 inc Vat
Used about 5 so far from the pack with no problems.
So that's 80p each

P.S. The disks sometimes seem to stick together (static electricity), so be careful you don't pick up 2 at a time and put it in your burner

Scan are doing the Aone cakebox of 10 for £8.03 (and of course with free delivery for orders over £30).

Have used these a lot and found them a cheap reliable disk for burning at 4x. highly recommended as a budget bd-25 disk.

for dual layer BD disks I have always found ebay the cheapest - just search for dual layer bd

I have always used ink jet printable Verbatim 10 pack BD-R cakes from a well known high street store, but just recently this store only has the regular non printable versions, for some reason. They work fine, btw.

I've been using cakes of white Traxdata BD-R bought on eBay for the last year or so. I've heard rumours they can become unplayable after a year but no problems so far.

From experience, i'd avoid anything by Maxell

Hi all,
Am about to purchase my first blank BR media. For the record, I have a Panasonic DMR-BW780 and have been very pleased with it so far.

Can anyone recommend good discs as I hear there may be issues on the longevity of recordings with some manufacturers. I did try to post on the 'Bluray Media Purchasing and Experience' Forum but no new posts can be made as it is over a year old.

I want to to keep these recordings long term, so was thinking probably Sony or Panasonic. Sensible ?
If I'm not bothered about write speed (as will do overnight) is there any benefit for going with higher speed write discs (one post suggested that these may be newer discs - better technology ?).

I have moved your post into Bluray media thread...which should have the effect of refreshing it.

If no other recommendations come forward you are likely to be OK with Panasonic media.

Wink PiDATA BD-R 50GB DL 6X

On occasion, I use a 50GB disc in my DMR-BW780.

Some media just wiil not format in my machine, or do not burn correctly, and end up as coasters.

Not with PiDATA. They format with no problems, and have so far created perfect recordings.

They are made in Taiwan by "Ritek", and cost £33.95 for 10 on Amazon.

They also work flawlessly on my Samsung SE-506AB/TSB Blu-ray writer I have connected to my PC.

However, I notice you can't clone the discs made on the BW780, although this is no fault of these discs I must add.

Would wholeheartedly recommend.

Rob
