With a single tuner device only channels in the same multiplex as the tuner is recording can be viewed and this only works on some recorders (some will let you record two from the same multiplex using only 1 tuner). To get a 100% second channel view or record requires a 2nd tuner

Re: Toshiba help please

Are you quite sure it says that on the box? This recorder - like all those of this type - has only one digital tuner, so there is no way using this machine alone that you could record one Freeview channel, and watch another. The only way that you could do that with this recorder is by using it in conjunction with either a Freeview TV or a Freeview box. However, for the time being what you should be able to do - if you still get analogue in your area - is record Freeview and watch an analogue channel on your TV.

PS I now see from the detailed spec that it has both a digital tuner & an analogue tuner, so the box is correct, but only in relation to one digital channel & one analogue channel - not two digital channels.

Perhaps this (?) from the extended specs is what it means

DVD Recording – Event/month timer 36/1, Max recording time 284 hours, Simultaneous play and record
VCR Recording – Event/month time 36/1, Simultaneous play and record

But, unfortunately, it doesn't mention twin Freeview tuners or being able to watch one Freeview channel and record another at the same time

It just means you can record a TV channel and watch a previous recording like all DVD Recorders.
