Recording problems with LG DRT389H

My new LG is not behaving.
When recording it occasional shows faint horizontal bands from the bottom of the picture of varying widths, that come and go. Plus the odd pop, pop,pop noise. Sometimes a full screen of green, then snowstorm then back to normal.
It's connected to a sky box with a scart to AV2 and a HDMI cable to the TV (also LG). It also has a tendency to lock the tv up which is resolved by pulling the mains lead out of the tv then replacing it again. I'm using DVD-RAM disks btw.
Any help please?

Re: Recording problems with LG DRT389H

I have just bought one of these as a clearance item from PC World Business. I wanted it to record from a DV Camcorder. Only the front composite connection (and presumably also the rear scarts) recognises the presence of the camera. Niether the firewire nor USB connections work for the camera.

When I record from my camcorder (mini DV tape)the recording, as monitored on the tv screen, is at slow speed. Later play back is at normal speed and hence about 6 times faster than reality. I get squeaky mickey mouse sounds on audio and rapid charlie chaplin video.

Commercially recorded or disks recorded on another machine play normally but this unit does not record properly from camcorders.

Has anybody recorded from a camcorder successfully? Is my unit a duff one or are they all like this?

Welcome to the forum.

That has to be a camera problem.

If you are connecting via composite there is no possible way that the DVDR can be impacting any control over the camcorder.

Possibly you hit slow motion instead of Play?

Re: Recording problems with LG DRT389H

Thanks very much for the thought but I do not think that is so. I currently have two cameras, a Panasonic and a Sony and have replaced two earlier Panasonic models. I have several years experience of recording to VHS tape without any problems. And have just replaced a Litone that went on the blink. It sends a faulty signal to the tv monitor showing wide horizontal black lines. So I persevered with all manner of minor alternatives to this DRT389H. I have yet to try and record from TV but I do not normally do that. I set the machine up OK to a Sky box and to a terrestrial co-axial conncection using the Auto Set Up. A lot of Freeview channels are now tuned in.

Re: Recording problems with LG DRT389H

Hi again Gavtech,

My wife was watching tv through the Sky box and I have just recorded part of her programme together with some adverts. When I played it back it was at rapid speed just like my earlier recordings from our camcorders. Nobody else has reported this fault. Most people seem happy with the LG DRT389H so I conclude that I have a faulty machine. I have scanned the on screen menus and instruction book for information but none that I have not tried is available. I have now asked PC World Business to replace it with me paying the difference for the market price of a new machine.

It was a clearance item because the box had been opened. Probably opened installed and found faulty only to have me do that all over again?

Thanks for your help.

Re: Recording problems with LG DRT389H

For the benefit of anybody watching this thread I returned the duff machine and bought another exactly the same from a different supplier. You will be pleased to learn that the replacement works perfectly.

Trouble with 'opened box' returns.

I have run up against this sort of problem myself. There is a chance that history will repeat itself, in some form or other, because I have just ordered one of these LGs from Tesco Direct's new outlet for customer returns - eBay, would you believe. I'm customer #23, so not many people know this yet ...

It is certainly the case that faults continue to lurk in these 'customer return' devices that lie deeper than a simple 'power up, play a disc' check would reveal.

Despite being posted on Amazon's Warehouse Deals listing as 'as new, cosmetic blemishes [they mean fingerprints] box opened and resealed.' the Samsung NC10 netbook I bought had serious probs and soon died a death. Returned it, got a refund.

Bought another described exactly the same way. Same story. It had terminal probs in the wireless net dept and had to go back.

Bought yet another from a Market Place seller based in Germany. Described as 'show item [German English for 'display unit'], as new, cosmetic blemishes' [sticky mitts again]. Yet again, duff. No funciona. Turkey-time.

So there is a good chance that, despite the blandishments commonly seen on all these sites that sell returns that 'frequently these units have never been used, returned as unwanted or opend box only' they have been used and there were problems - and these problems still exist when the thing is bunged back out on the market.

Mine was delivered 2 mins ago by the sweetest chicita ... Oh, well, there's always Penelope Cruz in 'Volver' once the thing is all plugged up and running.

Assuming it works

Sorry. Digit Trouble

Apologies to QSurvey. I hit the triangle icon [trying to discover what it meant] so that thread may have been reported.

Nothing wrong with it at all.

Hi folks,

regarding this player / recorder, thinking of getting one for my sister, however the area she is living in is not due to get freeview until 2011, my question is, does this recorder have an analogue tuner to pick up analogue tv reception?
