E60 Vs E50 any difference in quality

Does anyone know if there's any difference in quality of these 2 machines ? IS the E60 better at playback or recording or does it just have extra features ?

Essentially the machines are the same in that they use the same MPEG2 encoder/decoder. Where they differ is in some of the features/software.

In Software the E60 allows you to choose between Dolby Digital or LPCM when recording in XP mode (the latter offers better quality for music recording). The E60 also has an option to turn Seemless Playback off - useful for editting.

In Hardware the E60 has the PC Card and SD Card viewers and has an iLink connection for digital camcorders.

Apart from that they are essentially the same.

Ask yourself - "Do I Need iLink?" or, in layman's terms, "Do I Want To Make Recordings From A Digital Camcorder". If the answer is yes save up your pennies and buy the E60. If no then buy the E50. You'd be wasting your money otherwise.

I don't even own a camcorder so it has to be the E50 for me then (I was considering the E60 in case it was a better performer). I'm also going to get an S75 for playback, is the S75 a better player than the E50 for pre-recorded DVDs ?

IMHO yes. Have a look at the "PC GUIDE: DVD-RAM (inc DVD-RW VR Mode) To DVD-R" sticky thread which, despite the name, includes a brief guide on S75-E50 setup.
