Need help finding HDD Recorder - sub £100

Hi all

Basically I would like to find a decent HDD Recorder for under £100 with the following features hopefully.

Atleast 50gb harddrive with contineous recording from scart input.
RF Out (so I can display scart feed on several other TV's by their aerial input)

So far I have found this on ebay

PHILIPS DVDR3460H DVD RECORDER 250GB HDD DVDR 3460H

PHILIPS DVDR3460H DVD RECORDER 250GB HDD DVDR 3460H NEW on eBay, also Region 2 DVD Recorders, DVD Recorders, DVD Home Cinema, Consumer Electronics (end time 16-Jun-09 17:42:12 BST)

The reviews dont seem too bad, and I think it does the things I want, though can someone confirm I can feed the scart input out via the RF out.

And finally, if theres any other recorders under £100 any of you can suggest id love to hear.

Thanks!

AFAIK most recorders these days will NOT send the SCART input out (modulated) onto the RF out... A lot of old VCRS did... (there was a lot more money then...... )

what you can do, though, is use this device from maplin to do what you want....

Programmable Universal Modulator > Maplin

or it maybe much simpler to use wireless...
Maplin > 2.4GHz Video Senders

RF out is essential to feed the RF feed to the to other devices down the line... such as the TV.

The RF input is required so that the unit can receive the channels delivered via RF... The other devices also require it.

As said above, almost all DVDR's these days do not have RF modulators and therefore do not output anything of their own signals via the RF lead.

All indications in the manual are that it is the case with this unit also.

Note also that this unit does not have a digital tuner... only an analogue tuner... so if you are in an area where the analogue switch off has already occurred, it will receive nothing at all.

That may not matter if your intention is to feed an external source in via scart... but it will not be distributable via RF.

Re: Need help finding HDD Recorder - sub £100

as mentioned above , an rf output is rare on any models nowadays

the alternative is to use a game adapter plugged in the composite out or scart output sockets , and use this to distribute rf on a chosen channel between 21 and 69

another alternative is to use an old vcr and connect it to the scart or composite output of your machine , and set its av input accordingly , and use those machines as an rf output modulator in the rf loop

obviously the console adapters are a smaller and better option

check places like m@plin or e bay for them

Ah man that sucks, this is why I wanted it.

Currently I have a CCTV input into a VCR via scart, the RF out has a cable going to the tv do display the cctv video (instead of scart ouput)

So I just want to replace the VCR with a HDD recorder so it records longer than 8hours.

Most DVD recorders will not record more than 8 hours anyway in one recording.

To get more, you would have to programme consecutive recordings.

as gavtech says , dvd/hdd recorders have finite limits on the lengths of a recording time , probably 8 to 12 hours

and as he says you would have to program consecutive recordings to achieve what you want , not one long continuous recording , so maybe 2 or 3 set to daily

you could use the existing vcr connected to the hdd recorder as a means of getting the rf signal onto the same coaxial lead , using the vcr for rf distribution and the hdd recorder as the recorder onto its internal hdd with timed recordings of set intervals timed consecutively

so yes you can do it , and your vcr can still be used for viewing over rf just as it does now , only the tape part would become redundant

Re: Need help finding HDD Recorder - sub £100

doh, i dont want the vcr and hdd recorder together as its using more electricity then

why cant things be simples.. i may just try and see if the hdd recorder does what I need, if not, ill return it.

And ok, I guess programming consecutive recordings should be alright, so thanks for that info.

I appreciate all the helps guys, really enlightened some areas I didnt look at.
