Oppo BDP-93 Networking Universal Blu-ray Player Just when you thought there wasn't a better Universal Blu-ray player on the market for under $500 than the infamous BDP-83 Universal Blu-ray Player, Oppo proves you wrong by unveiling a new successor model: the BDP-93. Carrying the same retail price ($499), Oppo's BDP-93 has upped the bar by adding new networking/streaming features, increased performance and improved build quality. The Oppo BDP-93 will do virtually everything the BDP-83 BD player did, plus have some major feature upgrades as listed below: * Blu-ray 3D support * Netflix streaming support * CinemaNow support * Additional network streaming features will be announced once partners certify the player. Oppo has divulged several of their potential partners to us and users should not be disappointed. * Wireless-N networking * Dual HDMI outputs. The two HDMI ports can be configured to support separate video and audio paths, or to support two displays at the same time. * Marvell KYOTO G2 chipset with Qdeo video processig(though prototypes were also built with the ABT2015) * eSATA port in addition to two USB ports... |
Note to Arcam: Notice the inclusion of the 7.1 analogue outputs. ;) |
Will this be available in England? (or is that a stupid question) |

So how does the Qdeo video processing compare with VRS (and for that matter, others such as HQV and VXP). |

I think you also find some of this tech in Sony products S5000, 760 plus other brands such as some LG, Sharp etc. You may find the different video solutions compromise in different areas i.e. different approaches to address common issues so I guess personal priorities and taste will determine "best" fit. Here's an idea of just how much "manipulation" is on offer. I hope Oppo provide a user options to selectively defeat these features as preferred. http://www.sidchapters.org/ba/Archiv...ID%20Mar09.pdf Avi |
Put this in the vague rumour category, but this quote from the AVS Forum is interesting: "...Just got off the phone with NetFlix. When I asked about compatible devices, he mentioned Oppo. I said "no way". Of course he says "way". So I thought I had a scoop. Evidently I only have a half a scoop. He said they are supporting the Oppo 93 and 95!" Oppo 95? EDIT: Ah! Must be this, from Blu-ray.com: "...Oppo is also working on a higher-end model. However, unlike the BDP-83SE (which was based on the BDP-83), this new flagship player will be built from the ground up. It isn't yet scheduled for release, so it will come well after the BDP-93 is well on the market..." |

May be worth experimenting with when it's released  |

If you zoom on the "Fifth Element" before and after image you can get some idea of the affect being applied. Basically contrast at boundaries is exaggerated so that there is more sudden "black to white" type transition i.e. higher contrast rather than the more subtle boundary gradation in the original. This exaggeration causes us to perceive more detail when in fact there may actually be less. :) Avi |
I do hope it has speaker control at least as good as the 3800 regarding crossover frequencies, levels and distances. I look forward to the SE version ;) |
will CRT be selling this? will there a multi region mod for this |
Wonder what LexiCon will do with this player:devil: |
A few more images - CEDIA 2010 Show Report: Jim Milton - SECRETS CAVE This report also claims the 93 has "WiFi". Avi |
I love my 83. One of the few limitations for me is that it won't play WMA Lossless and will only recognise a limited number of files & folders from any external HDD attached to the USB ports. Fix this - something that shouldn't be too expensive or difficult - and the 93 becomes a media centre with ripped video and/or audio playback as well as from discs. Steve W |

Sounds great! :smashin: |
3 Attachment(s) i love the gloss front seeing as Arcam forgot about us using 7.1 analogue then i think this oppo might fit the bill  and there is going to be an upgrade for the se version soon as well |
I may have read it wrong, but I'm not sure there will be a chip / PCB/firmware upgrade to an 'SE' version. Won't the 'SE' or 95 be a complete new build up from ground level? Maybe sounds like upgrade from 93 to 95 won't be possible? |
Is it wrong that I prefer the looks of the old design  This new one looks more like a digital STB to me  |

Damm more expense !! will this player have better pic via dvd playback than the 83 ? I take it there may be not much of an improvement pic wise via blu playback ? guess will have to wait for reviews etc very simular to LG BD390 of sorts but better build quality etc ! What i mean im trying to justify upgrading again to make a better leap forward !! oh no here comes santa .... ;) |

I prefer the new payer.:) |
Oppo comment via Twitter: "We anticipate releasing the BDP-93 by the end of the year, with November being our goal." November will be essential I would have thought, having now officially discontinued the 83. |

Typical I am just getting the cash together for the BDP-83 and it's phased out hahaha! Does anybody know if this new model will still be SACD and DVD-A compatible? Cheers, - John |

Thanks for that AVI :smashin: However have just read elsewhere that there isn't a pair of dedicated stereo outputs anymore, which is of concern to me as I wanted it for SACD and DVD-A playback too. The BDP-83 seemed to be all things to all men, whereas this new one - perhaps - is more tailored towards the videophile, rather than audiophile. Sure is nice looking though! |
