Re: do i need a dvd

Hi,

Can I assume that you and your significant other, are prepared for the installation of 5 speakers and a Sub Woofer in your main viewing room, which, again I assume would be your lounge?
That being the case then I would strongly advise you to investigate Separate components.
You are correct in saying that home cinema systems are packaged with inbuilt amplifiers together with the DVD player.
You already have a perfectly serviceable DVD player/recorder linked to a rather good Tv set.
You need to invest in a 5.1 speaker package and a suitable Amp/Receiver.
These two items separately could cost less that an all in one system and have the advantage of independent serviceabilty ie if the DVD player breaks down you will still have the surround for your TV while its away.
I would suggest looking at Richer Sounds for an affordable Amp.(Sign up as a VIP member to receive more discount and offers, its free ) They also sell reasonable speaker packages.
There are several other offers online so have a good look round ( for example Mordaunt Short Premier speaker package at Hiwayhifi for less than £200).
Dont forget to allow an amount for speaker cable although some packages do include basic cabling.

Good Luck,

KH

Re: do i need a dvd

It is possible to get 2.1 systems or even just a single large rectangular speaker under the TV but best results are 5.1. Home cinema systems are a DVD or blu-ray player together with an amp.
