Hey which is the better player for picture quality? The sony is a little cheaper but what player is worth getting to upscale dvd's and play divx/xvid?

There are some favourable reviews of the XD 500E in these forums. It seems to be better for overall picture quality than the Sony...... which is almost half the price of the XD 500E.

I have a Sony DVP-NS708 and it takes an eternity to actually load a disc. I can't say the picture quality was outstanding either.

Well I decided to go for the Toshiba and watched Transformers, the upscaling is excellent, really suprised!! The difference in detail is quite vast but obviously its no match for a true HD source (blu-ray) but on a 32 inch lcd the gap is much smaller!!

Does quality of the hdmi cable make much difference?
