spec me a BDP that can bitsream HD audio

hi folks

I have following setup
BDP: PS3
Amp: Pioneer LX-SC71
TV: Pioneer LX5090

As I have come to realize PS3 cannot bitstream HD audio at all - it does all the decoding itself and no way to circumvent that.

I would rather have my receiver do the audio decoding (logic would dictate that since it is handling the speakers it is best for the amp to manage the audio decoding and distribute it to the speakers - or am I wrong?)

Therefore could you spec me player that will let me bitstream all audio to my amp and can you specify if it does it via component or HDMI, ideally I would like to have it via HDMi (less cabling )

cheers

Re: spec me a BDP that can bitsream HD audio

The panasonic BD35 does it , so does its Sony counterpart ,

However , it makes no difference whatsoever whether the de coding is done in the player or the receiver.

Certainly in the case of the BD35 , as I have both this and the PS3 and can confirm that there is no difference.
( Except of course , the pretty little light on the amp goes on )

Component is an analog video interconnect and has absolutely nothing to do with bitstreaming. Component carries no audio at all unless your talking about 5.1 analog interconnects.

Hi lunarwolf.
All the new BD players will bitstream TrueHD/DTS-MA over HDMI (only) any brand/price in mind at all?
Cheers.

Re: spec me a BDP that can bitsream HD audio

no real budget, best bang for buck really and a gain from PS3 obviously . I just don't want to spend more on a player that I could get from another for less.

looking for quality and as "future proof" as possible (ie at some point able to get 2.0). maybe a pio would be nice since I have the sc-lx 71 amp and kuro (looked at bdp 71 and 51 - couldn't see the reason why a 71 would be better - or maybe I missed something asides from touch screen button) - but Pio not a requirement if better can be had for less.

Re: spec me a BDP that can bitsream HD audio

ok thx, but do think they are better than my PS3? they seem to do the exact same thing. I am not sure what would be gained?

can you explain. I would want to upgrade and not sidegrade

The main difference would be noise level. My 60gb PS3 makes quite a racket sometimes due it's large fan and it's processor doing so much work it goes into meltdown. So for me, almost any current standalone player would be an improvement on the noise front. Other than that, the only other reason is not to have my PS3 do all the work and hopefully improve it's life span. I'd prefer to use it as a games console only and not the work horse of a major a/v set up.

Re: spec me a BDP that can bitsream HD audio

thx for all you replies guys

My PS3 is very quiet I can barely hear it and certainly not during movie playback. Guess I must have good airflow around it

Will keep the PS3 for now. I think if I were to buy a BDP player than the sony 550 would be it (just so ugly). I like the multi region, since I have tons of Region 1 DVDs from way back (still have my Blade runner double sided, although I admit I haven't watched it since I bought the Blu Ray version)

Once my amp gets delivered, I will ask my local dealer to lend me one so I can test at home. Bought enough stuff there I think shouldnt be a problem.

Still can't understand why, they haven't made a dirt cheap BDP that doesn't decode, but rather only Bitsreams HD content via HDMI to the receiver. Most good av amps will decode, don't see why we need redundant systems.
