A few BD questions

I've been out of the whole homecinema loop for a while (damn you xbox360) and i'm looking at getting a cheapoish player. From what i know, which isn't much, if i get a player that has 6channel phono output on the back i can use those to get DDHD from my amp? that right, in which case i should get something like a Panny BD30 or Sony BD300 as the new 35/350's dont have those connections anymore, right?.

Or if all of that is just drivel, what can you suggest i look to get

Cheers

Re: A few BD questions

The Panasonic BD 55 will allow you to get the new sound formats for sure pooon.
I have the BD 35 which decodes them and outputs as PCM over HDMI.
Great player.

Do you have a HDMI amp/receiver?

Re: A few BD questions

The 35 and 350 don't but the S550 and BD55 do

You need the analogues as you say and HD audio decoding within the player. Most have Dolby True HD decoding but not all have DTS-HD MA decoding so check on those.

The other option is a player that re-encodes the HD audio to high quality audio that it can output via an optical connection such as the Samsungs.

And according to Samsung's recent finding they are as good as a Denon 3800/Piolx91

That was a joke by the way

Sony 550 will probably be the best and cheapest option.
All the best.

Cheers Monkey. So picking up one of the frequently for sale Sony 350's from the classifieds here isnt the best plan for me. But how about the older Panny 30 and Sony 300? Failing that looks like i'll have to spend a little more on a 550 or 55 i guess

Cheers

Re: A few BD questions

Yep, I think you should try and get a S550 or BD55 if possible.. Even it if it means waiting a couple of months for the next best thing to come along or live without the HD audio for now??

Re: A few BD questions

Cheers for all the info guys, although i'm now slighty confussed. Kingfats says that the BD30 has no DDHD decoding, but then Syk provides that handy link to one. and to confise thing more would i be better getting a cheapo 35 or 350 and changing my amp to something like the Onkyo 606 (think thats whats its called) as my Yammy 640 is ageing a bit now

35 or 350 plus the Onkyo would be a great combination.

Indeed.. I don't think you want to pay a hefty premium for a Multi-region player when you are trying to keep costs down... But Syk seems to enjoy promoting Multiregion Magic... A happy customer only I presume...

Definately, I only hope I am allowed to mention Dealers on the forum. In the past they have helped me by listening rather than sell me a sealed box straight away.......and no, I don't have any shares in the store!
