I just purchased a Sony BDP-S350 and had some old DVDs that had some AVI movies on them. The DVD is a DVD-R, when i put it into the blu-ray player to defaults to Photos, when i try to select it, i get the message that there are no photos on the disc. Can AVI files not play on a BLu-Ray or is there a special way i need to burn these files to a DVD or CD?

I don't think the Sony BDP-S350 supports avi playback. To check you press the home button and go to the video (far right) option and see if the avi file is listed.

There are other players out there that do play avi from DVD or Bluray. The Sony BDP-S350 manual only references commercial discs and recorded disc which implies it expects the video to be in DVD-Video, VC-1 or AVC format.
