Anyone try somthing with Bravia Sync please

Hi,
Can anyone with Sony kit tell me if Bravia Sync will let your TV control your Blu-ray?
I want to buy a tv to wall mount and hide a bluray behind the wall.
I am thinking of a BD350 and a 32v4000 TV. Will this combo allow basic control of the BD (play, pause, rew etc) via the TV hdmi connection?

Any other makes that can do this type of control?

(I know there are IR senders that will do this but they all seem messy and need another 13A socket.)

Panasonic's Viera Link is their equivalent of Bravia Sync and in my experience works very well. With this system you have full control of the Blu-ray player including accessing menus.

Re: Anyone try somthing with Bravia Sync please

For the OP, Yes you can.

I have a 40v4000 TV and an S-350 Blu Ray Player. The TV remote at the top has an area marked "Bravia Sync" with Play,Stop,Fast Forward etc for use with kit that is hooked up to Bravia Sync.

The Blu Ray remote will give me some control over the TV as well, on/off and HDMI input change.

The Blu Ray remote will let me turn the TV on and off and change the HDMI selection.
Unfortunately, the 32V4000 has a different remote to the 40V4000 and doesn't have the Bravia Sync buttons. I seem to remember that most of the smaller Sony sets (<40") don't have the Bravia Sync functions.

Re: Anyone try somthing with Bravia Sync please

Only models with BE2 have the Bravia Sync functions on their remote control, I believe.

Biggest issue with Bravia Sync and Blu-Ray players I have found is the lack of a pop-up-menu button, which could be an issue on discs that run straight into the film when you want to change language or subtitle settings, or indeed want to access any special features. Well, I couldn't find a way of doing this when playing around at work, but I didn't read the manuals...

Re: Anyone try somthing with Bravia Sync please

Thanks for that!

Just to clarify, with NO infra red signal reaching the Bluray, will it still play, pause etc with a signal via the TV and HDMI connection?

This is a bedroom tv, so really dont want 40"...

BUT....

... just checked sony website, it says 32v4000 has bravia sync and the remote is pictured with play etc buttons.

Can anyone confirm this as a Sony centre also told me that 32" TV remotes dont have play etc buttons.

If you want the buttons on the remote and Bravia Sync you need the 32V4500 which is a more expensive model.

The 32V4000 has Bravia Theatre Sync but not Bravia Sync, they are 2 different things. Also, Sony are showing the wrong remote control on their site.

Yup, play/pause/FF/REW no problems at all, provided the control has the buttons, with the V4000 remote definitely does not (picture on Sony's site is incorrect).

You should get the 32V4500 which will have these buttons on the remotes, and much much better picture quality to boot.

EDIT: only two minutes in it!

Re: Anyone try somthing with Bravia Sync please

With Panasonic you'd be looking at combining a 32LXD80 TV with a BD-35 player.
