The best available BR player today

Just wondered what the best in the world of BR has to offer (I wont be buying !) Are there any Krell and other exotica out, never heard anything from the top end manufacturers. Is it the Pioneers, Sony and Denon's at the moment ?

Think the lx91 or the 3800 would take that crown, maybe the S5000ES taking the bronze?

Now that's fighting talk

Have you compared all three?

Edit: Everyone's favourite popcorn hifi mag will be having a shootout soon.

No, tbh I haven't seen all three in action side by side but I doubt there is a better three at the moment. I'm struggling with what to get myself as my first standalone blu ray player the S5000ES, 2500 or whether to wait for the Oppo 83.

With the more 'higher-end' kit as the market is smaller, doesn't it tend to get a world release a little quicker? So you never know.

That would be interesting, I have always been such an Arcam fan, but they have lost their way a bit recently, I hope this is going to be the start of a new era....

Cheers

Re: The best available BR player today

The transport will appear before the player and they are probably further off than we would like. My worry for Arcam is the new Sonys and how fast they might be....If Sony launch a new fast series of players then many of the smaller people who are investing loads of £££s may get left behind simply because of the complexity of the job in Blu ray design.

I was told 'don't expect an Arcam BD player before October/November at the earliest'.

Does this ring true?
