Blu-ray Virgin Please Help.....

Hi all, this question has most likely been asked several times but here goes.
I want a high end Blu-ray player to complement the rest of my set-up but don’t want to pay the high prices that are being commanded at the moment. Also I would like to wait a while for the technology to settle down. I guess in about a year or so I will take the plunge.

The thing is I am itching to get into the format to utilise my Onkyo processor and my 7.1 set-up.

I am more than happy with my Denon 3930 DVD player for DVD and CD play back so all I need is a budget Blu-ray player for playing Blu-ray discs and that’s it really, not bothered about interactive features etc.

The only machine that springs to mind is the Panasonic BD35, based on reviews in the media etc. Also it’s on offer at Costco wholesale this week for £160.99…..!!!

Or the PS3, but I don’t play any games and I don’t think I would get into them….!!!

My main goal is sound and picture quality, anyone’s thoughts, ideas and recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks………………[/FONT]

Re: Blu-ray Virgin Please Help.....

Some very helpful advice (and a link to a great comparison of the higher-end Sony and Pioneer players) here:

What BD player for slightly-ageing setup?

Re: Blu-ray Virgin Please Help.....

As per norm it's all down to price. Have a look at the Pioneer's if it's sound quality as well as picture quality your after. Re. PQ I doubt there is much in it between the Pannys and the Pios, but there might be on the sound. The Pios are built toward the hifi way of thinking, separated chassis, power supplies, and individual circuits for Video/Audio etc rather than a one chip does all solution. But you pay the premium... no surprises there. There are three options from Pioneer at the moment, LX51, LX71 & LX91. The 91 is up there in the Denon price bracket, but the 51 is quite reasonable.
I'm not belittling the Pannys as they are fantastic machines. Just thought I'd add something else to your list of options

Re: Blu-ray Virgin Please Help.....

Thanks to all for the advice so far......................

As stated in my original post at this point and time I only want a budget player, such as the Panny BD35, then in a year or so I will buy a hi end machine, such as a Denon or a Pioneer flagship model. This is only an intrim purchase to get me into Blu-ray.......................
