Disaster Movie 7,1?

I just received Disaster Movie from LoveFilm. The reviews are dreadful but seemed to suggest that it was going to be 7.1. More specifically, I was expecting a DTS HD MA 7.1 soundtrack. I just popped it into my Panasonic BD35 and it seems to only find one soundtrack. It describes it as "Multi". It I select PCM in the player then my Onkyo 605 says Multich 5.1. If I select bitstream then the Onkyo says Dolby Digital 5.1. Not DD+. I was expecting to hear 7.1 for the first time but instead this is the poorest sound offering from any BluRay that I have seen so far. Is this a repeat of Pan's Labyrinth HD DVD in which only the US got 7.1? Why do they get different sound tracks from us anyway?

Hi.
I know the US version has DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 what can you select audio wise on the disc menu? usually under languages.
All the best.

No audio menu on the disc, only subtitles and special features. As far as I can tell, there is just one sound track.

Thanks.

I can't quote exactly what the menu offers at the moment since I am not at home but oddly there is no "Languages" menu or any other one that normally gives you this choice. The only options that I can find are "Play". "Subtitles", and "Special features" (I have looked at all of them). Also, the Audio button on the remote control normally allows me to cycle through the soundtracks but in this case only gives me one. An oddity is that it calls it "Multi" even though the Onkyo says Dolby Digital (when in bitstream mode).

Maybe it is just a Dolby Digital track on the UK release?

Looks like it (or I am being dim and missing something) but it is rather disappointing.

I would need to check but other discs are giving me a choice of formats. And, I am getting 5.1 from this disc, not just 2.0.

Just wondering if the "Multi" track could be PCM 5.1?

That is one of the odd things. I can only find one track on the disc which the player describes as "Multi". I tried both PCM and bitstream settings. In PCM mode, the amp says "Multich 5.1" but I was surprised to find that in bitstream mode, the amp said "Dolby Digital 5.1". So, I am confused as to whether there is only one track and what it is.

You may remember me asking a while back about Die Hard 4.0. That was a surprise in a different way. I was only expecting 5.1 but when I selected the DTS HD MA track in PCM mode, the amp said "Multich 7.1". The same track in bitstream mode came up as "DTA HD MA 5.1". It looks like the player always outputs DTS HD MA as 7.1 (presumably with two silent channels when it is really 5.1). Anyway, the point here is that it would seem that I don't have some odd setting restricting output to 5.1.

I think that I should forget the issue until I am back home and can play again (maybe not for a few days). We have come to the limit of my memory of settings and disc options.

Thanks for your interest and help.

Re: Disaster Movie 7,1?

I for one find all the different audio formats, DTS, 5.1, 7.1, Dolby Digital, Dolby Prologic, THX, ect. confusing.
It was only after I played four films on my new 350 that I reaslised that I wasn't getting 5.1 because it wasn't set in the players menu.
Is there an idiots guide somewhere?

Usually it's just TrueHD DTS-MA or the PCM track.

Re: Disaster Movie 7,1?

OK, now I have the lap top and I am sitting in the AV room. Player is currently in bitstream mode. I put the disc in, skip over several trailers, and reach the menu, it offers just three choices: Play Movie, Scene selections, and Subtitles. Subtitles offers only On, Off and X. I am not sure what the difference between Off and X is. I select Play movie and the amp say "Dolby D 5.1". I press Audio on the BD35 controller and it says "1ENG Dolby Digital Multi" (Actually the Dolby logo rather than the word. On most discs, repeatedly pressing this button cycles through the available tracks but in this case, it does nothing. It seems that there is only one audio track.

So one puzzle is solved, the player was not saying just "Multi" which may have meant PCM, it was agreeing with the amp that the track is DD5.1. The only oddity that remains is why this UK copy has just DD5.1 when the US copy as DTA HD MA 7.1.

Indeed, I am just disappointed that instead of my first 7.1 experience, I get just SD audio quality not Dolby TrueHD, or even Dolby Digital Plus but plain SD style Dolby Digital 5.1. Let's hope that the kids enjoy the silly jokes otherwise I have wasted one of my LoveFilm rentals.

Does anyone know a good site to check the available audio tracks? I have found some but they seem to describe the US editions than the UK ones.
