Is my dvd player faulty?

Is my dvd player faulty?

I Have just got an LG DR 385 dvd recorder,it plays div x, copied dvd`s,but when i play an original dvd i get horizontal band of colours flashing on and off every couple of seconds.This only happens with Original disks

Is it faulty and should i return it ?

It may be that the macrovision protection is activated for some reason when it should not be. The macrovision activates if it thinks that someone is trying to make a copy of the original.
Or else it may be the cable, im asuming you have a hdmi one. Try a different one.
If it is definitely not the cable i would take it back to the shop.

That's the macrovision copy protection pulsating.You're either trying to copy a disc,or you have it plugged into the wrong socket on your tv.

It is connected by hdmi and there is only 1 hdmi output on the t.v ,i am just putting the disk in and pressing play,i wouldn`t know how to copy a disk on this player.

i`ve tried 576,760 and 1080 and still the same band of colour flashing up

Yes i have just tried a scart lead and it plays fine with no flashing colour any more,could it be the hdmi lead?
