Cheap DVD player

Im looking to buy my nephew a new DVD player for xmas as he wants to go multi region

He will only be connecting to a small 15" cheap LCD from Asda so im sure the picture quality wont be amazing however I would like the player to last a while if possible and if he wants to get a larger tv in the future avoid the need to buy a new DVD player at the time

My question really is if its worth spending out > £50 for a half decent upscaling dvd player with HDMI etc even though none of these features will really be of any use in the short term. Or whether just to get the cheapest multi region player I can find and replace both the TV and DVD in the future (say 2 years from now)

From looking at reviews and recommendations on here the Philips 5990 seems to be highly regarded and can be had for £56 on amazon, but is this too much just to connect to the 15" mentioned above

Thanks

Re: Cheap DVD player

If you plan to replace the TV anyway then I would go for a player like the Philips. It should last for the coming years until your nephew will be caught by HD or so which will most likely happen as soon as the TV is upgraded to a shiny flat screen
