DVD-S1700

Who owns one of these players, just want some views if good or bad as i am finding it hard to find reviews on this player, i can also get it for a good price ,i have seen the region hack ,i want to no when applied is it permanent or do you need to re-punch code in?

I have it's big brother, the DVD - S2700. Not sure what the differences are so maybe not much help. I can say that the S2700 is a superb player, plays everything you throw at it including SACDs and DVD-As. I use it as my main CD source. Got lucky with mine, bought it for about £200 which ain't bad for a player which had an rrp of £900. AFAIK the region hack is permanent but I don't have any discs from regions other than UK to test it.

the 2700 is more for audio i think and you can use hdmi for SACD, £200 thats a bargin mate were was that from? there was one in the local shop near me and they wanted £500 for the 2700 nice player that i was messing with it.

i want a 2700 now but there hard to find, yea that was another question does it play REC coded discs but dam you have no R1 discs..

For info, the player will NOT pass SACD over HDMI. For this, you need to use the analogues. Everything apart from SACD can be played over HDMI.

I bought mine from Hughes Direct via Amazon but it was clearance stock and about 6 months ago.

The region hack does work - I have this from a number of sources. The question I can't answer is your original one about whether you have to key it in each time. I'm almost certain it's a permanent fix but can't verify it personaly.

Ah right thanks for clearing that SACD up ..

I seem to recall someone asking the same question a few months ago. One reply said that they had contacted Yamaha and asked about the differences between the S1700 and the S2700, the reply was that the main difference is in the Audio side of things, and the video is basical the same. It maybe worth doing search on the S1700

Just had a quick look at Yamaha's site. Certainly the 2700 is better for audio. It also lists 1080p video via HDMI but not so for the 1700. I don't know if this means that the 1700 doesn't do 1080p via HDMI or if Yamaha just neglected to show this as part of the spec. I guess downloading the manual would confirm or not but I don't have the time right now.

yea the did throw me off that , i saw that too. finding it hard to find a good deal on the 2700 but the 1700 i have seen that for £100 not bad for a £400 player.
