Re: Sony BDP-S350 Region B UK owners thread. - PART 2

Can someone tell me how to change the Video output settings like changing to diff resolutions or i/p modes without having to start the film again.

Everytime I do that it goes back to the start of the disc even though I pause the movie.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks King. It is a shame but have to deal with it I guess.

Can you please explain me the choices in yCBCR / RGB settings or colour space settings on the player and how it affects the image?

HDMI colour space.
Auto should work for the majority of screens.
4:2:2 > display will decompress the subsampled colour.
4:4:4 > player will decompress the colour.

16-235 > Video levels.
0-255 > PC levels.

Re: Sony BDP-S350 Region B UK owners thread. - PART 2

I found leaving it on auto and selecting 576i gave me a pink picture. I had to take it off auto to get colour back. I have it on RGB 0-255 atm and looks good. I found RGB 16-235 made the S350 menu look dull.

Re: Sony BDP-S350 Region B UK owners thread. - PART 2

To play DVD with correct AR I have to set
TV Type -> 16:9 (to match the TV)
Screen Format -> Fixed Aspect ratio (suggests to me everything 16:9)
16:9 and wider AR DVDs display properly
The 4:3 picture is displayed properly(4:3) on the 16:9 screen.

If I use
Screen Format -> Original(suggests to me everything plays original size)
16:9 and wider AR DVDs display properly
However the 4:3 picture is stretched horizontally to fill the 16:9 screen. (It can be re-sized using the TV remote - possibly resulting in lower PQ)

This seems to be the opposite of intuitive to me.
Is this the same for other 350 owners?
Is it a bug in the set up menu?

I havent got a 4:3 Blu Ray to test - if anyone has, can you test?

regards
potnoodles

Sony BDP-S350

Hi.Go easy on me !!!

I have a Toshiba 37WLT66 TV which is 1080i. Will I see a major improvement in picture with the Sony Blu-Ray player? The 1080i/1080p thing confuses me slightly.Do not want to part with my hard earned cash unless it is worth doing.

Thanks

The Toshiba has a maximum resolution of 768p.

Re: Sony BDP-S350 Region B UK owners thread. - PART 2

Well I had some spare time this morning and I found an old One for All, URC-7562, 6 way remote in a drawer. So dug Underworld, a Region 1 disk that resulted in me parting company with my JVC multi-Region DVD player. Load the disk and up comes a warning and a world map.

Program the One for All as above, remember to drop the two leading zero's, i.e 00025 becomes 025. Disk out S350 in to standby, out off standby, cross the fingers, press 12345 and a little blue light starts flashing after a minute I guessed it was not going to stop so back in to standby. Then as they say power it back up and pop Underworld back in and hey presto I have a multi-region S350.

I never actually thought it could be that easy.

Re: Sony BDP-S350 Region B UK owners thread. - PART 2

I got mine delivered today from amazon. Used the free bundle thing to get Hancock, Wall-e, and mama mia.

I then had a problem registering with the disc, It stated that the disc had already been used, for some reason I struggled to get the player added to my existing sony account, but finaly managed it, but I am concerned that as the disc has apparently been used then I wont get my discs.

Should I pack it all up and return it to Amazon as it isnt new? I have used the 'contact us' facility on the sony site to let them know that it said the disc had already been used, I will ring on Monday when they are open too.

Why should it be this difficult?

That's very odd people are getting this problem. Somebody else had this problem also, and like I told them I tried registering twice (I was trying something out) and it worked fine both times with no message stating the disc had already been used the second time. Maybe Sony have changed something at their end and it's mucked something up.

^^ What did the tape sealing the box look like? Did it show any evidence of being re-sealed? If so or if there was any other clues, like fingerprints all over the unit then I would throw it back at them. Otherwise it simply isn't worth the bother.

You might be better off calling Sony with the serial number, explaining the issue and asking them to check if your inline for some free disks.

Also received mine from Amazon today which isn't bad for the free delivery, was slated for delivery between 16-22dec but came within just 5 days (ordered monday night). The 3 free disk bundle is apparently comming seperate via Royal Mail.

Very pleased with the player, DVD's look super sharp on my Tosh 37 'Z', have yet to watch a Bluray on it but I'm sure i'm in for a real treat.

Now to get myself added to that 'forum bike' remote list so I can get my player unlocked, got lots of R1 DVD's in the collection...

to be honest, it looks new, so initially I will call sony monday, and find out when / if the disc was used, and from that I will go to amazon if necessary to get a new one / a couple of free discs

I would imagine its a sony error so hopefully it will get sorted

Re: Sony BDP-S350 Region B UK owners thread. - PART 2

Its likely a sony system glitch but definatly a good idea to check. Although its illegal to resell a returned item as new, it does happen and I wouldn't put it past any retailer to end up doing that. Fortunatly the're quite easy to spot with the box resealing looking a but untidy.

Anyway hope you get it sorted before Sony finish the 2 free disk promo (15th Jan), don't waste any time whatever you do.

Good luck mate!

Re: Sony BDP-S350 Region B UK owners thread. - PART 2

Ordered mine today from Amazon.

There is a promo on which gets it you cheaper, think its on the original thread but basically you add the bundle of mamma mia, wall-e and hancock (which gets deducted at checkout) but you also click on the following area:

Sony Special Offers
A Christmas Like No Other - buy any three selected Sony CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray discs or video games and save money off a Sony DVD or Blu-ray player. (Terms and conditions apply).

If you select a Knight's Tale DVD x 3 you get a further £15 deducted and the DVD is less than £3 each so you don't lose out.

It also seems Aazon have put the price up of the Blu-Ray player to £160.85

Also on Supersaver delivery you only get the player before christmas and disks after. I upgraded FOC for 1 month to Amazon Prime and got next day delivery by citylink on the player and blu-rays so this is also worth doing.

I ordered mine yesterday, got it on Amazon for 160.99 plus the 3 free disc (mama-Mia, Hancock & Wall-e), should all arrive on Tuesday.

I orginally had the panasonic on order but it was £35 more and wouldn't be delivered till fter christmas.

Almost purchased a PS3, didn't realise there were affordable profile 2 machines out, i'm well chuffed.

I already have Sky HD so is there a big difference on films?

Look forward to attempting to register online for the free films ;o))

I got mine yesterday, registration went OK, shame it doesn't decode DTS-MA for my amp but the sound on Hellboy 2 was still top-notch and the picture on the Dark Knight and H2 was just stunning, Have borrowed 10 blu rays off my friend and am looking forward to giving it a through workout over the weekend, so far nothing but impressed,

The discs are sent by Amazon AFAIK. you should get batman begins and Casino Royale from Sony by registering the player using the disc in the box.

The player is despatched via Citylink24 & the 3 Bonus discs are despatched via Royal Mail, then Sony registration brings you the remaing 2.

Re: Sony BDP-S350 Region B UK owners thread. - PART 2

No Sony bonus discs for me

I bought the player in late August and registered it in late September after the fiasco about the sony website not initially seeing the model number. I deleted and reregistered.
I waited weeks to get the discs and finally contacted Sony who told me that the bonus disc promotion only started in Mid September and as I had stated my purchase date of August, I was not entitled to the discs. They actually suggested I re register again stating a purchase date within the promotion period.

I did this and waited a few more weeks before contacting them yet again. I told them I bought the player in late Sept. Now they are insisting on a copy of my purchase order before they will send the discs.

Guess I'm stuffed then

Is it possible to downgrade the firmware?, I'm having a few issues since I upgraded it a couple of days ago.
