you do relise this player is next to no good for playing english discs????

and if you have hacked the model to a region a macine the manul will be no good.

if you do hack it to region a it will only work with a replacment remote i.e. logitech.

the problem with this player is that it is discontinued and its manafacter is not releaseing firmware update so you will have problems playing quite a lot of english titles.

Re: Bush BD01 Owners Thread

Hello all. Quick question on this firmware update for the multi-region. Once inputted, does it have to be done every time you turn it on or is the player ultimately an American player for all intents and purposes once the firmware is changed? Thanks in advance.

Re: Bush BD01 Owners Thread

Well the firmware isn't 'multi-region'. It's firmware for a US machine. Once the player is updated you are fixed permanenly with US R1 RA player.

Re: Bush BD01 Owners Thread

Apologies, that is what I meant. My thinking is that I can use my PS3 for Region B, and the BD01 for Region A. Quite like the idea of the firmware being permanantly fixed to Region A as basically an American machine with a British plug. Thanks again mate.

Re: Bush BD01 Owners Thread

Hi guys

Just as an update to my posts of aggges ago - I got one of the insignia remotes from the US for this model machine and it works perfectly- buttons in the right place n all!

I updated the most recent firmware and tried the BD Live, but havent had success - anyone else? I'm thinking its because BD Live needs a USB memory stick enabled and the BD01 doesn't have that port like the insignia.

Thumbs down Re: Bush BD01 Owners Thread

I also got one from the Argos Clearance it's not came yet though.

Have I been done over? What's this it won't play normal Blu Rays are we taking US imports or it won't play Blu rays at a tenner from HMV?

And what about updating the firmware and new remotes how can this be done?

Re: Bush BD01 Owners Thread

I'm not sure about all this regional stuff.

I know the Bush Supports region B but from what I have read online it's only early films that had regional codes and now most are uncoded. And am I right in saying Blu ray movies in the UK are all region B and will work anyway? This problem is just for Region A (US films?)

Re: Bush BD01 Owners Thread

The problem with the machine was that quite a few UK discs like all the Bond films would not play. The only way to fix it is to update to the US insignia firmware. This makes the player region A, region 1 only. Permanently.

The bottom line is that the player is only good as a US machine.

Ok thanks just this site says it's only good as a UK player:

Bush Breaks 100 Pound Barrier | BluRayFanatic.com

I won't be watching bond films. Might buy a few new films if they work? Seems a little confusing I hope it's only a small number that don't work.

Re: Bush BD01 Owners Thread

How old is this article you are reading. Bottom line is the firmware updates where discontinued on this modal as this modal is now really old. And no this player may play some titles you buy but quite a few newer titles will not play.

And if you install the American firmware to the player you will only be able to play region a blu rays or region free. And you will also need a new remote.

And you have to ask yourself do you wish to source all your discs from America.

If you want to get your discs from HMV this player is going to be no good for your needs as you will be wanting to play British discs

Re: Bush BD01 Owners Thread

Thanks basically a useless player. I have asked to cancel as I just ordered last night.

Do other players suffer this? What should I avoid? I seen some Samsungs about £100 are they safe?

Thanks I managed to find a Samsung about £110 postage included has the latest wi-fi and firmware so I assume it's a decent player.

Re: Bush BD01 Owners Thread

Finally got my hands on BD01, thanks to a kind sale by a forum member. Have to say I'm very impressed. I'm not just impressed in terms of what I paid for it (less than £50) but just in terms of a player I'm REALLY impressed. I don't doubt if I bought a "proper" player I may get better playback but for what I wanted - Region A playback without adding circuits or using current convertors - I'm very pleased.

Are you talking about the Samsung BDP1600 by any chance ? If so its not wi-fi out of the box, "wifi ready" as in "HD ready" and in my opinion its a bag of doo doo. There seems to be some dodgy BDP1600 floating around that won't region hack via the remote. When it works, its fine, but its pot luck whether you get a decent one. I got rid of mine and bought a LG BD370.

if not then ignore my rant.

Re: Bush BD01 Owners Thread

As this thread is back again, have any owners managed to find a remote code to get the BD01 working with any "One-for-All" remotes ? I've got the URC 7781 and none of the codes on the One-for-all website work so if anyone has got one I would really appreciate it

Re: Bush BD01 Owners Thread

Forgive me if I am missing something on the thread but could suppose please tell me what settings they have selected in order to bitstream HD tracks with this player? Have my amp on to detect such setting, adjusted settings on the the player to bitstream but still only getting Linear PCM on the amp. Am I missing something? I'm sure this player can bitstream HD? Thanks to anyone in advance who can help.

Found the answer to my own question. A Region A player that bitstreams HD Audio for around £80 on eBay. Amazed people aren't raving about it more. Just watched Up, now watching District 9 and the PQ is fantastic.

Firmware update to bd2.0

Im wondering if anyone else has not yet given up hope of updating their BD01? (accepting that the Insignia update will make it Region A)

Having had a look here Logik Lbd1000 Need Help - Blu-ray Forum and seen that a firmware update to BD2.0 was available to the budget Currys Logik player. I also noticed (as did poster no. 3 on the Logik thread) that this machine also seems to use same OS/interface as Bush.

The update and installation guide is available from here

http://support.thetechguys.com/Uploa...structions.pdf)

Anyone else given this a go ? Like the Insignia the Logik has a usb and therefore some of the BD live stuuf may not work. I won't be able to get to the machine for a couple of days, but in case it fries it any clues as to how you might roll back firmware ?

I bought one of these machines in Dec 2008 for my Father / Christmas gift. He's been complaining that it won't play certain blu ray discs.

I phoned Argos tonight, explained the problem. They've advised there never will be an official firmware update for this model. But they've very kindly agreed that he can take the player back to the store, he'll be given a credit note up to the original purchase price (£97.86) and he can then select another machine to the same value or chip in a few quid and update it to something that suits him better.

The LG BD350 comes in at £89.99 or he can get a Samsung BD-P1500XEU at £104.99, whichever he wants.

So that's really good of Argos, in my opinion. He's had a years use out of the machine and they've been good enough to recognise the problem and show him a bit of flexibility. Nice one, Argos

Just a quick update.

Took Father dearest & the machine to Argos this afternoon. The initial response of the agent behind the desk was that the Bush blu ray player was out of guarantee and that they'd never replace it ... nor would anyone at Technical Support have agreed to do so either. Bit of a standoff developed but we remained polite ... but insistent.

So she phoned Technical Support and despite them taking my personal details last night, they had never noted anything about a credit note etc against my record. So the store manager finally phoned them, at that point Technical Support agreed the machine could be either refunded or a credit given. Bit drawn out, the whole thing, we were in the store about 45 mins.

So with his credit my old man bought himself a Sony BDPS360B and it works fine, he's quite happy with his new purchase.

You install the harmony software on your PC and then set up a new device. Enter the insignia model number. There should be instructions with the remote.
