This does sound like an awesome bit of kit when you look at the price tag. I don't have a BluRay player currently as initially I was waiting for the HD 'war' to finish and prices come down to a reasonable point once the 'war' was over. I think this unit ticks the boxes!!

Thanks to everyone who has posted their remarks / comments here, it has been an interesting and educational read - keep it up!

Yes - I was the same, waiting for the prices to reduce. But in the end just could not wait any longer!

Got my BD35 today from Amazon.Only got National Treasure 2 and not Narnia i'm afraid.
I'm not that disappointed though as i already have both titles but i had planned on selling them both to PS3 owning mates.
Might get in contact with Amazon about it though

Found setting the player up a doddle

I've played a few discs : Casino Royale,I Robot,Iron Man and was suitably impressed with PQ and Dolby True HD sound quality.
Not sure if PQ is much better than the PS3 though, more examination needed i think.

Download the claim form for Narnia from here.

(It's a pdf document)

Yes - I recommend contacting Amazon. Their advert states quite clearly "Includes 'National Treasure' and 'Chronicles of Narnia'".

It makes no mention of having to fill in a pdf claim form and the purchase of a padded envelope with £2.40 worth of stamps stuck on.

Re: Panasonic DMP-BD35 Region B UK Owners Thread.

Hi guys,

I need your help. I want to buy the BD35 but there are no sites that I know of that will ship internationally. I live in South Africa and Panasonic simply won't bring in this unit. Not sure why but they are not bringing it in to S.A. So my only option is to import and I don't want to import the NTSC model.

If anyone can assist me in finding one or they know one that does ship internationally I would really appreciate it.

Regards,

Would sending PCM from a BD55 via HDMI sound better than sending PCM from a BD35?

No.

Going off what I've read, the improved components are for the analogues only. The digital signals (if error free) cannot be improved upon whilst in the digital domain.

Hi goneten. You live in a lakker place and I love braaivleis!

To answer you question: I think you are right in that there are no UK sites that will export to SA. Your best bet is to try the big ones like Amazon. But I suspect you won't have much luck.

Can't help you mate - unless someone knows differently.....

Alan

Thanks for the reply Alan. The braaivleis isn't bad hey ?

I tried Amazon (UK) and they don't ship internationally. I can't believe that there are no sites that ship internationally. What about international customers ?

I really want to avoid NTSC if at all possible. Thanks anyway.

What many overseas people do is spend a couple of weeks or so holiday somewhere in the UK, purchase the kit and take it back with them.

That way you get to experience the lovely UK weather!

Tot seins (or something like that - too long ago!)

It is now official, I live in a retarded country (or at least manufacturers take us for retards).
The Belgian Panasonic web site lists the BD30 as the all new BD player.

PANASONIC Belgium - Home

Maybe they'll start promoting the BD35 in a year or so.

Re: Panasonic DMP-BD35 Region B UK Owners Thread.

Hi all.
I've tried a few more BD's when i got home from work and i've got a problem.
My USBD (coded ABC) of Starship Troopers DOESN'T work.
I see the red bar loading at the bottom of the screen and then NOTHING.
This disc works fine on my PS3 as do all my others (about 120 and counting).
I feared that this might happen as i thought that 2 years on that BD had sorted itself out.
It obviously hasn't.
The PS3 is indeed the most reliable player out there.
Has anyone else had the same problem and what should i do ?.
NEVER had any problems with ANY of my HDDVD's either.
Not happy

Don't worry, you are not alone. The S.A Panasonic website states the same exact thing as well. BD30 must be the latest and greatest.

This is the reason why I need to import this player now. I just wish I knew where to go for international shipping.

Excellent news, I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine. whilst I'm not an expert, the DVD upscaling 1080p is superb (Tested with Billy Connolly and Piglet's Big Movie - sounds daft but if they are good then real quality recordings should be too!). Not tested with Blu-Ray although I will be asking Amazon why I don't have the Ratatouille that was advertised and I paid for.

He's asked me to help him out...

So far I'm Pana TH-42PZ81 plasma tv, Denon AVR1909 Receiver, Pana DMP-BD35 Blu-ray and KEF KHT2005.3 speakers (possibly i-pod dock for the Denon also)

How does that sound?
I have a Panasonic HS9 HD1080P camcorder and the PZ81 Panasonic plasma, PS3, Denon 1909 and the KEF 1005.2 speaker package - so very similar to what you are thinking of. I can honestly say all components work brilliantly together. I am going to purchase the BD35 as well as I do not like the message "multi channel" on the denon amp when listening to true hd/dts hd thru the ps3. I want to be able to see the denon doing the decoding of these sound formats and displaying it as so on its own led screen as "true hd/DTS hd so that I can see it as being that. At the moment I cant tell what I'm listening to as it just shows "multi channel input" which could be anything for all I know .
Does anyone know for sure that the Denon 1909 will be able to do the decoding from the bd35 and show its own blue light for hd sound formats??

p.s. I am NOT retired

Sure.

"Ready for the future the AVR-1909 is equipped with the latest high resolution surround sound format decoding capabilities, including Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, and DTS-HD Master Audio – the latest high resolution audio formats found on many Blu-ray high definition discs"

Re: Panasonic DMP-BD35 Region B UK Owners Thread.

I shall be doing the set-up slowly - step by step.

After unpacking and sorting stuff out (batteries in remote, noting serial number etc) the first impression was how light and small it was. Also noted air-intake louvers on both sides and the air-out fan at the back, so this unit needs a small amount of air space both sides when fitting into the A/V shelf.

The four rubber feet are very small so I stuck on larger rubber feet to raise the unit about 10mm for better air circulation.

Plugged in mains & HDMI1.3 leads and powered-up. Opened up the tray and noted how well made it was, not flimsy and wobbly like some. Plonked in the provided BD (National Treasure 2) and was immediately blown away by the depth of colour and the 3-D affect (only watched the Disney film adverts).

Whipped out the BD and put in a SD DVD (Star Trek SG which is pretty average quality) and was immediately struck by the improved PQ. This is in comparison with a Toshiba SD-580E DVD 1080p Upscaler which the BD35 replaces.

I have yet to change any of the settings - the above observations were made with the unit straight out of the box. Menu settings come next....

Regards
Alan

Re: Panasonic DMP-BD35 Region B UK Owners Thread.

I had mine delivered yesterday and am very happy with it.

The PQ for BD and DVD is excellent. I had read that DVD playback was only average, on a few sites, but it looked really good.

I was supposed to get Ratatouille in the box, but I got National Treasure instead! Never mind. I had Ratatouille anyway, hehe!

Im on the verge of ordering the BD35 and need to know if it's worth it for me.
