Hi there.

Bit of a dilemma - hope someone can help

My old faithful Pioneer 757AI seems to be on its way out - keeps skipping / stopping whilst playing.

I output via component through an amp to an SD projector. I'm going to keep the projector until it falls apart - so at least another year yet.

My question is- whats the best sd dvd player for under 100 pounds, and how would the pq compare to the 757?

Upscaling is not a priority, although I plan to get an HD display in the next year or so. Not fussed about music playback either, although I do use the i-link (firewire) to the pio amp - not sure if this is a common interface, or not.

Any ideas ?

analogue outs of quality cost more money. I would look second hand in these HDMI times.

Should be able to pick up a second hand Denon 2900 for that sort of money. Built like a tank and very good picture via component. Quite a few people have said it was a better machine than some of the latter Denons.

Agreed, best bet is 2nd hand 2900 or another 757 (note that the 868 and 989 were worse via component than the 757). Any new £100 area DVD player is just going to be crap by comparison.

Congrats! I've got two of em myself and I don't really know why. Lovely players, perhaps overkill for the kitchen but lovely CD spinner too so it's justified

Good call, the 2900 was the last of the greats.
