1. Is the DVD-R like writing a CD? I mean can you copy TV progs to the -r over several nights before finalising the disk or does it just copy one prog and then thats it?

2. When you have TV progs on the -r or the -ram can I copy them to my vcr?

3. Also if I have enough scart and av leads can i plug my sat into the DVD recorder, the recorder into my vcr and the vcr into the tv?
It dosn't seem possible to me.

I'm thinking of getting a Panasonic E50, any opinions?

Hello confused brain. Just buy the E50 and enjoy

The answer is "yes" you can copy to the DVD-R over as many nights as you wish and finalize it when full. You don't have to finalize it as they will play on Panny DVD recorders anyhow but not DVD players until finalized.

Yes of course..No problem. Good results as well within the poor limits of VHS that is. I advise any recordings you want to transfer to VHS that if possible record onto the RAM or DVD-R in the top quality (XP) recording mode for best results.

I am not sure I understand your 3rd question but I think the answer woud be yes???

Fantastic piece of kit. Run out and get one now..

I suggest you don't do it that way round! Most VCRs won't pass through RGB, they will only output composite video or S-Video at best.

If possible you should configure RGB on the sat box and DVD recorder to get the best possible picture.

I have another question already

Have read that my Denon 2800 mkII cannot play dvd-r.
Once I finalise the DVD-R does that mean that it can play on my Denon as a DVD-Video?

No. When reference is made to a players ability to play dvd-r this refers to finalised discs. The recorders themselves can play unfinalised discs as well but this is unique to recorders.

have you ordered the E50?

if not can the Denon play +R, if it can you may want to go the Philips or others + route

If you have I would recommed exchanging Denon as this is going to be a major headache to you, and 3 DVD players in one peice of kid seems a tad OTT

I hadn't really thought about dvd-r or dvd+r when i bought my MkII. Bought it primarily for the PQ, which was an astonding increase from my Yamaha.

The MkII manual claims only able to play dvd-Video, cd-video,
cd-r/rw and mp3.

Although I have come across a few sites which state the player is -r/rw compatible.

Guess I will wait and see.

I wouldn't worry too much then. Most manuals still make no mention of a players ability to play dvd-r(although this is starting to change). If a site says it plays dvd-r, then it probably does.

My E50 is currently sitting in a wearhouse. Was meant to be delivered yesterday.

Mental Note, don't use cheap Royal mail delivery option again.
