Oppo or Denon ?

I'm making my first steps into HD and am concidering what DVD player to upgrade to.

I'm getting a Panasonic 42PZ85 and a PS3, so the DVD player will mostly handle R1 SD DVDs and occasionally DVD-A.

The two key contenders seem to be:
  • Oppo 980H - I've only heard of them recently - are they really as good as everyone suggests?
  • Denon 1940 - I like Denon products so I'm swaying towards this one just because I know more about them.

Which would you reccomend?

Cheers

The 980 is a popular choice for many people who simply want to use the player as a 576i/480i digital DVD transport to a video processor or display with a high quality internal VP. The video processor takes care of the deinterlacing and scaling in this case not the player.

If you plan to use the player for deinterlacing and scaling the Oppo 983 is a much better option if your display doesn't have a high quality VP.
