Arcam vs. Marantz vs. Denon vs. Rotel

Hi,

I am just building my HT and I am looking for right DVD player - I do not have unlimited budget (like many people here seem to me do ), therefore I will be buying from ebay some used stuff for reasonable money.

I came accross these:

Arcam DV78 or 88
Marantz DV7600 7700 or 8400
Rotel 1060
Denon 2910 or 2930

This is quite a sellection, I know. I do not have any prefrences regarding brand. I used Denon DV2500 before - liked the sound but the usability was poor. If you feel like I should consider brands like Sony or etc., let me know, but I am thinking about something bit more exotic like the brands above. My main concerns about future player are:

1. Good sound for CDs
2. Good picture possibly with 1080 but not necessery
3. As problemless as possible

Will be used with HK AVR 4000 and B&W speakers.

Is there a maniac that can help me with this?

Many thanks.

Re: Arcam vs. Marantz vs. Denon vs. Rotel

Welcome to the forums Bobby....

If I was picking from that list I'd put in the following order...

Arcam
Marantz
Denon
Rotel

Don't dismiss the Rotel just because it's last on the list, it's only because I'm not familar with their products.
I've owned dvd/cd players from the other three, but the best perfomer for me was Arcam.
If you're on a budget, but would prefer a new machine, I would recommend the latest Oppo 983/981/980 Universal players, all fantastic value/performance for the money and put a lot of high priced stuff to shame...

Re: Arcam vs. Marantz vs. Denon vs. Rotel

Hi,

thanks a lot. I was actually also considering those two (Arcam, Marantz). I have read a lot about Oppo on this forum, but never heared of it before. To tell the truth - it looks to me very cheap - like thouse Tesco products. I know inside might be better ...

Can Anyone else help? Specially comparing Arcam DV88 and Marantz 7700, 7600?

Thanks
