Sony NS78h and Sharp Aquos

First post so take it easy on me.
I have had my Sharp LC-37XD1E for a while now but have just bought a Sony NS78 for its upscaling ability. Had everything hooked up using SCART leads while waiting for my HDMI lead and everything was fine.
Since connecting it up with the HDMI lead I can not get a full Widescreen picture - the picture has black bars across the top and bottom of the picture. I have tried various different dvd's, and combinations of settings but can not get a full picture.
Any help would be great as this is really annoying me!!!
Thanks

Re: Sony NS78h and Sharp Aquos

FWIU, black bars top and bottom indicates that your Sony is upscaling correctly and displaying the movies in their native format.

Re: Sony NS78h and Sharp Aquos

DVD's with 2.35:1 ratio or wider will have black borders top and bottom. Try a DVD at 1.85:1 and it should fill the screen.
