Denon 1940 on board decoding question

Would the on board dolby digital and dts decoding on a denon 1940 be better than my sony 1070str if i let the dvd decode it or whould i not hear any difference?
Iam thinking of buying a new player and connecting it to the 5.1 multi inputs on my amp.
