Recommendation for upscaler for Pioneer 428xd

Hi,

Can someone please give me a recommendation for a sub £100 SD upscaling player for my new Pioneer 428xd plasma.
My key requirements are that it is Multiregion (or remote hackable to MR) and that it plays divx/xvid off both dvd-rs and via USB.
I've been looking at the Philips 5960 and Samsung HD870 - and assume I won't see any benefit by going to the higher models (5980 and 1070) as my screen is only 1080i.

Thanks

the screens upscaler is very good any way so with any machine its worth seeing which resolution gives you the best results. sometimes you might be best off letting the tv do the upscaleing. toshiba 370 seems to get descent reviews but haven't looked into M/R it doesn't have a usb but this has limited functionallity or most macines so would depend on what you were using it for, it often only allows for jpgs and mp3 and your tv should have a usb anyway.

IMHO you need to be spending £500+ on a dvd player,or BD/Hd-dvd player to get a scaler thats better than the pioneer's.

Pioneer DV600? Scan (free delivery for forum members) have been selling these for about £81 (which you don't see until you add it to your basket). They do do this every so often, sometimes just as a one day special, but might be worth a look.

The Toshiba EP35 looks lovely on the Pioneers, but a bit above your budget (at the moment!).

Whatever you get, don't set it to upscale!

Re: Recommendation for upscaler for Pioneer 428xd

Thanks - I think you've convinced me its not worth upgrading my Pio HDD DVR. The SD picture is pretty good with the built in upscaler and I'm getting HD off Sky so am very happy with the screen. Like many others I know, I am holding back on Hi Def DVD until there is a player (either BR or HDDVD) that I can get genuine MR DVD playback on - I've got too many region 1 & 3 discs to compromise on that one.
