Hopefully something here that may help.

There should also be asetting to turn HDMI audio to on which outputs sound via the HDMI cable.

Re: Dvp5980..........

Thanks for that, but i've discovered that when i use a scart cable i get sound, so it appears although i get a picture using an HDMI lead i don't get any sound is this due to some compatability issue between the TV ( its a 26" LG ) and the DVD palyer?
I would still like to be able to connect via the HDMI cable for obvious reasons, so if anyone knows a way around this problem i'd be much obliged.

Thanks again.

Re: Dvp5980..........

Try changing HDMI Audio to PCM. Make sure HDMI is the only connection attached, the Phillips has a Intelli Menu and knows what is connected.

Re: Dvp5980..........

I had the same problem with mine. Audio worked fine with scart but when i connected the HDMI lead i got no sound from the TV. There is a setting in there in the DVD menu to turn on sound with HDMI. For some reason HDMI sound on default is off and you have to change it. I understand though you cannot connect the DVD player to a surround sound system via the coax output if you already have the hdmi connection in use???

You can have HDMI video and coax audio at the same time. You can't have audio output via HDMI and coax at the same time.

Cheers
