Why no sound from Denon Link SE with CD?

I have an upgraded Denon AVCA1SE amp and recently purchased a DVDA1 to go with it. They were connected with Denon Link and I got great CD audio via it.

However, I took the DVDA1 back because of freezing problems and swapped it for a new one that has Denon Link SE.
Know I know the Denon Link SE allows the DVDA1 to pass encrypted DVD Audio to the amp, and that the amp needs another upgrade to accept this encrypted audio.
But now I can’t even get CD audio to the amp with the link? The digital lock indicator on the amp just flashes.
It worked before, why not now?
Is this normal? Will it work if the amp is upgraded again?

Another problem is that Denon can’t do the 2nd upgrade to the amp for about 4 weeks.
Apparently they’re out of boards (I thought upgraded SE’s and SR’s just needed a firmware update).

So, anyone know what’s going on?

Jules

As far as I´m aware the already upgraded A1SE needs to go back to Denon again so it can have the Denon Link updated to the SE spec. Not very handy really! Denon should be able to confirm this to you though.

Theres no way I´m sending mine back again just to have the Denon Link sorted out. Its not worth the hassle.

Indeed your amp does need to go back.

A first edition Denon link A1SR & Upgraded A1SE will not talk to a Second edition Denon link DVD A1.

There should have been a manual supplement with the player explaining this.

I am told that the upgrades for the amps are not to far away.

Thanks for the info.

I'll definately be getting the Amp upgraded again for several reasons:

- The link will allow me to use the amps THX Ultra2 Music processing on DVD Audio discs
- Better delay settings and bass management in the amp
- less clutter at the back
- to my ears, the link sounded much better than the coax or optical digital feeds
- it will help the resale value if I ever decide to sell
- the upgrade is free!

just a pain we have to wait weeks to get it done.

Unfortunately the 300 quid round trip courier costs from Spain to the UK aren´t, so its just not worth it for me.
