PS3 and Multi region Playback

Hi All,

I'm considering getting a PS3, which will be used for Blu ray playback and playing Gran Turismo, when it finally launches.

Will a UK bought PS3 play US bought Blu ray films?

Ordinarily, I'd buy UK ones, but the Blade Runner Ultimate set (which I've bought) was only available in the fullest version as an American set.

Oh, and will I be able to play PS2 games on it?

Cheers,

Mike

Re: PS3 and Multi region Playback

Thanks all - cybersoga, nice link, some very useful info there.

What do you mean by the 60Gb version for PS2 games? I've only seen the 40Gb version and I've only got one PS2 game, GT4! I only bought the PS2 to play that single game and it's likely the PS3 will be solely used for GT5 (or whatever it'll be called).

Cheers,

Mike

The 40gb version was stripped of the 'emotion engine' along with other cost savings so wont play PS2 or PS1 games. The 60gb version however will play most old games.

Re: PS3 and Multi region Playback

Ahhh, I thought it was just a size difference on the hard disk. Looks like the 60gb versions are as common as rocking horse **** now!

Might just have to keep 2 consoles on the go.

Thanks all.

Cheers,

Mike

I think the 40GB will play PS1 games. They don't need an emotion engine chip as the PS1 never had one.
