If you click & look in the Sony S500 it clearly states BluRay Region A & B !

Re: Region Free Sony & Samsung Blu Ray Players !
Just supposing they have hacked it, and Norway does have a reputation to uphold there, it would surely be wiped on the next firmware upgrade.

I hope it's true, however, I'll believe it when I see it.

Good news if true, and I'd certainly be tempted to buy one.

Re: Region Free Sony & Samsung Blu Ray Players !
I really hope they have done it but my understanding of Blu-ray says the very next firmware update or indeed disk based media check, I don't know if it is actually in use but as I read it the discs themselves can be embedded with software which will be run the players virtual machine when you attempt to playback a disk that can either reset or possibly brick the player in response to a detetected modification.

True, but I imagine they've thought of that already.

We have started selling modification kits for these two players. Other players will follow soon.
Ofcourse it will also be possible to have your player modified by us.
Hundreds of hours of development have gone into the modifications for the Sony line of Blu-ray players.
We have modified thousands of DVD players since 1997, so you can be assured it is 100% working.
Even with the modification installed, the players remain fully upgradeable with the latest firmware updates.
Development
Currently we are working on modifications for the Samsung BD-P1400, Pioneer Elite 95/BDP-LX70A and the Panasonic DMP-BD30

Re: Region Free Sony & Samsung Blu Ray Players !
My worry would be Sony will get their hands on one of the modified machines and specifically engineer a software/firmware update/disk based check designed to neutralise the mod. I do hope they don't because once a profile 1.1 or 2.0 machine is out and multi-regioned I will probably finally buy one. Until then I will stick with my new pc which has a bd drive, and I may change it for a BD/HDDVD combo drive and go multiformat.

I think they'd only bother doing that if they were pressured to, otherwise it's a waste of their time.
