40gb or 60 gb PS3 - Differences/better?
Finally decided to get myself a blue ray player, only to find there are now different versions of the PS3.
Are there any differences apart from the obvious 20gb and who is doing the best deals at the moment?

Hi mate
Only a 40GB HDD, no backwards compatability, no memory card readers, 2 less USB ports.. and still no rumble controllers....

Can confirm SACD playback is with the 60gb only. Can you still get the 60gb model?
All the best

Cheers KF
I don''t get to the PS3 shops very often but I don't think I've seen a 60gb in a while. Certainly they were running out when I bought mine which was at the end of Otober.
Best wishes
Bri

I've heard about that too. I wonder if that will be any different? SACD and DVD Audio?
Cheers

Re: 40gb or 60 gb PS3 - Differences/better?
The 40GB version is much quieter, runs cooler and consumes 25-30% less electricity. I find most 60GB PS3s to be too noisy for film play back.

Quite a few people have said this within these forums so I gather it's correct. If anyone's not that keen on the the "advantages" of the 60gb then go for the quieter 40gb model.
Regards

Re: 40gb or 60 gb PS3 - Differences/better?
I have no problems concerning noise when watching movies. But if cost is a factor and its mainly for Blu-ray i would go for the 40GB.

I would have paid more for the 40GB version.

Re: 40gb or 60 gb PS3 - Differences/better?
At last, a decent reason or two to go for the 40gb. To be honest it will be mainly for the blu ray player, although since I started looking some of the games do look quite appealing.
No doubt my 360 will sulk if its got to share space with a rival

As others have said, you lose backward compt, SACD playback, 2 USB on Front (4 down to 2) and 2 USB on back.
BUT ....
You gain the smaller die CELL processor, thus less heat thus less power consumption thus less fan noise, so better for Blu Ray playback.
You pays your money ....

Re: 40gb or 60 gb PS3 - Differences/better?
isnt the 80gb version in the US only (not sure about Japan)
severely doubt we'll see it - although upping the hard disc from 40 to 80 would probably cost Sony about a quid.
I've got 2 US 60gb PS3s and yes the fan can be a little noisy at times, although rarely troubling during playback.
Also have a UK 40gb model but havent really used this enough to check its playback.
