A Few Gripes With PS3 Blu Ray Playback

I'm a little annoyed with the BR playback on my PS3. When starting I'm getting grainy lines on the screen which eventually go away but surely this shouldn't be happening?

Also getting a fuzzy screen before start up.

Doesn't sound good, have you got another HDMI lead you can try?

Re: A Few Gripes With PS3 Blu Ray Playback

I only bought the PS3 on sunday and I only have 1 HDMI lead which I bought with it. It's a Sony one, not a cheap one.

Thats no guarantee of quality I'm afraid. If you try another cable and its still bad, I would try the PS3 on another HD display, and after that I would take it back and get it changed

I don't have the luxury of 2 HD displays!

I'm getting thin grainy lines in the bottom half of the picture for the first 10 secs or so of playback and then it's absolutely fine?

It can't be the HDMI cable because the Games and normal DVD are fine?

I was thinking more about you taking it to a friends house, or back to the shop to try.

As for the second point, it very much depends on what resolutions you are using. It is possible the cable isn't coping with the bandwidth required for high resolution BR playback.

The point is that unless you test these things, you can't discount them being the problem. You could just take the unit back and get it changed, but if the new unit has the same problem, the problem then isn't the PS3

Re: A Few Gripes With PS3 Blu Ray Playback

So a ridiculously overpriced HDMI cable is the answer maybe?

Comet are asking £100 for a Monster 10 gig one

I'm not technically minded but surely if the Sony cable i'm using can handle PS3 games in full 1080p then why not Blu Ray?

After the intial 10 sec period, the BD playback is fine. It's just bugging me.

I have took out 3 year cover on the PS3 with GAME.

No, I would never spend that. I personally use Mark Grant.

The point I'm making is that you have to eliminate every possibilty if you want to get to the bottom of whats going on. The cable, for example, could be broken or defective in manufacture.

I'm gonna buy a 1080p cable from Mark Grant.

Does a shorter cable improve PQ ? Or is that a myth?

Not always. I use an 10m Mark Grant HDMI without any problems

Hi mate
I think if your going over five metres then you have to look at purchasing a higher quality one up to the job.
Just a couple of metre length though and a piece of string should do.

Re: A Few Gripes With PS3 Blu Ray Playback

If it were me and I suspected but could not confirm a problem with the HDMI lead then I'd buy a cheap one assuming its only a short distance. 2m or less and I would spend very little on a cable. I've used these cables and they work perfectly well.

Only a Fiver !

If it fixes your problem then by all means go out and get a better one but I bet you won't tell the difference.

Re: A Few Gripes With PS3 Blu Ray Playback

I have a 1.5 metre 1080p HDMI cable on the way from Mark Grant.

I'm praying this fixes the problem.

Re: A Few Gripes With PS3 Blu Ray Playback

Still not recieved cable yet but does anyone else have issues with their PS3 and Blu Ray playback?

It's absolutely fine after 10 secs but the grainy lines just as it starts to play are annoying me alot.
