I've recently bought a 5960 to try out upscaling to my modest Panny lxd60 display and, potentially, replace my Pioneer 575, which now occassionally locks up. The 5960 is connected via hdmi and the 575 via component.

Having read these forums extensively I was unsure that I would see any difference. However, having done some brief back to back tests I did see a difference. The difference isn't night and day but there is visible improvement. The 5960 picture is just that bit clearer and sharper compared to the 575, which now looks a little soft in comparison. Divx playback looks good and the usb port is very handy. Looked at some jpeg files via the 'HD JPEG' and they look great too.

So far, £49 well spent.
