Best upscaling DVD player for 50 quid?

Seen an article in the paper about the samsung hd870 for £50. It got 5 stars. Is it really that good and worth replacing my marantz dv4300?

I've always been sceptical about upscaling dvd players. Cant see how they can make a picture better without having the information there, from the source.

Is there better upscaling players out there for 50 quid?

Could well be, but until they are compared side by side nobody knows for sure. If you are happy with your current player then there might be very little point in spending £50. However, if you hunger for something new, I can't stop you, just hope you come back and post here to tell us how your new player is

Re: Best upscaling DVD player for 50 quid?

this might not be the answer you want......in my bedroom i have a panny LMD70 32" lcd.i had it connected via HDMI to a phillips 5980 upscaling dvd player, which i thought produced a great picture.......until........i bought a HDDVD player for the lounge.i then took my 5 y.o pio 737 from the lounge and connected it to the LMD 70 via component.....the pio wipes the floor with the phillips(ive offloaded it to the mother in law),so id save your cash TBH,for 50 quid i dont think its worth it,youve got a tosh telly,so it should have component inputs...id connect your marantz like that.....
