Re: Cheapest DVD that'll play avi files

these days, even some of the £20 models from the likes of asda will play avi files. have a look at richersounds as they will probably have something cheap that will suit your requirements

a modded xbox is also excellent as it'll play more file formats than any store bought dvd player (with a couple of rare exceptions)

Talking Re: Cheapest DVD that'll play avi files

Just bought a PHILLIPS DVP 3120/05 [£29.97] from TESCO's and it plays my .avi files perfectly.............

As it says on the box "SIMPLY PLAYS IT ALL" and it hasn't turned it's nose up at any disk I've thrown at it.

It took 10 seconds to make it MULTI REGIONAL [using it's own remote] and it plays my REGION 1 DVDs perfectly.

The only "fault" I can find with it is that it doesn't have a "memory" i.e. eject a disk and it starts back at the beginning when you re-insert it.....

Great value for money - neat small unit - highly recommended !!

Yep! That's the one

Still delighted with it and now at £27 from Amazon

I know it's mentioned elsewhere - but I have the file to hand.............

You can follow the following instructions to make your philips dvd player multi region!!!!!

1. Turn on the unit
2. Open the loading tray
3. Press the "Setup" button on the remote
4. Navigate to the "Preferences" page using the right arrow key
5. Enter 138931
6. You will now see the current region code displayed
7. Use the Up/Down arrow keys to select the region required or "0" for all regions
8. Press the "Play" button on the remote

product_type : DVP3120/05
purchase_date : 13-10-07
serial_number : XXXXXXXXXX

Comment / Question
--------------------------
The Software Version is DVP3120_05.bin ---is there a later version please?? Page
35 of the Manual makes it sound dead easy to find on the website--- but I can't
!! Many Thanks

REPLY FROM PHILIPS

I bought this machine for my girlfriend late last year and have just seen your remark about AVI's however i have just tested this - it does NOT play AVI's.

Can you clarify this for me and let me know how you were able to play them on this machine? Philips specs even say it does not play these types of files!

Thanks.
