Re: upscaling

Your plasma is already upscaling, even without 'upscaling' players.

tommy so what sets are upscaling dvd players meant to show improvment with,i understood a hdmi input is required to give any improvement,i can only say watching a upscaled dvd on my pioneer is no better than a standard def broadcast film on it.

Re: upscaling

I too am upscaling my dvd's via a PS3 into a Samsung 40inch LCD 1080p set and i'd say the results vary from disc to disc. If it's quite a poor picture to begin with from the master, e.g The Running Man, then i don't think there's any real improvement at all. However, other discs seem to get good results. Me and the missus watched Liar Liar the other day and the picture was terrific and was definitely improved. I would also say that anyone expecting an upscaled dvd to look as good as Blu-Ray will be disappointed as although it's good, it can't work miracles.

Upscaling and HDMI will (may) give a marginal improvement for DVDs, but you shouldn't expect them to look anything like a Blu-ray movie. On the other hand an upscaled DVD should look better than a cruddy freeview broadcast. So perhaps you aren't using the right settings for the PS3 and your display. You've probably got NR cranked up to the max for example.

Re: upscaling

Well my m8 has an upscaling DVD player connected to his Samsung LCD, and to be honest from what I've seen the improvement are only very small.

No disrespect, but that's very vague. Also, we try to avoid using text speak around here. We're above that on the AV forums. Let's preserve the language.
