Multiregion & R.C.E Question

Hi All

First Question

Is it worth getting a Multiregion Player?

What are the benefits?

Second Question

Does it matter whether the player is Region 1 via a handset code,or Chipped internally,do they still both play all region 1 discs?

Thanks

Alan

Re: Multiregion & R.C.E Question

the benefits of a multiregion player are that you can play any dvd from anywhere in the world, thus you can order region 1 american imported discs for example, sometimes you can get films before they are released on dvd in the uk, and sometimes you can get cheaper imports. sometimes both cheaper and quicker, plus there are titles available in other countries but not the uk

generally it doesn't make a big difference as to the method used to make multi region. i don't think many players need to be chipped these days, it's either handset hack (which is arguably the best as it's easy to change region again, and thus set to R1 to allow RCE discs, isntead of R0 for multiregion) or firmware update (you can sometimes download these online and burn to a cd then insert in the player to update)

i think most players available now can be made multiregion one way or another. it's worth checking to see if the model you want can do it before choosing the player. your existing player may even be made mutliregion (google up the model and see)

Re: Multiregion & R.C.E Question

Many thanks for the reply.

I googled for a code but I forgot my model is a Panasonic DMR-E85 which is a recorder, but I got nowhere anyway.

I think I will need to replace it anyway, but it would have been nice to find a code, just to test the water.

from checking another site, i found only this

[FONT=Verdana]Panasonic generic regional code IR sequence

0082 0015 0089 0004 00F2 0033 0017 0010 0091 0013

You can enter these codes with a PocketPC using TV Remote Controller and making a CCF file with these codes. Or use a Palm with Omniremote. Make sure no disc in the player when entering this code.
so it can be made MR but you have to use a PDA to send the instruction via infra red. maybe a friend can do it for you if you are unsure and/or don't have a suitable PDA
