I own an LX70 and can clearly hear a difference when playing a TrueHD track (Letter from Iwa Jima) via PCM MultiChannel in to my Arcam AVR350.
I have a feeling that you have been given incorrect information as many on these forums have stated that LX70 does decode TrueHD, but I would like an absolute definitive answer on this.
Hope you enjoy your LX70A

This is what the amended manual says:
High quality audio
Blu-ray supports DTS, DTS-HD (DTS-HD is played back as DTS), Dolby
Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD (Dolby TrueHD is played back
as Dolby Digital, or as Linear PCM if you are connected via an HDMI
cable; for more information see About the audio output settings on
page 42), and Linear PCM audio in up to eight channels (up to two
channels for 24-bit/192 kHz audio). Connect this player to a surroundsound
AV receiver for a true home theater experience.
In order to take advantage of Dolby TrueHD audio, you will need to
use an HDMI cable to connect this unit to an HDMI-compatible AV
amplifier. After making the necessary connections, insert a Blu-ray
Disc that contains Dolby TrueHD audio, and choose ‘Dolby TrueHD’
from the disc menu.
