Unhappy Pioneer BDP-LX70 Does it decode Dolby True HD

To all the owners of the pioneer bdp-lx70 does the pioneer decode dolby true hd as it states on the brochures and reviews? The reason being is I have the pionner also but I find the manual states otherwise.I've been reading the manual and keep finding dolby true hd(Dolby true hd is played back as dolby digital). There is no logo on the player and the manual just dolby digital + and dts. With my ps3 it has the logo on the machine dolby true hd but I can tell you I know it decodes it as you just have to press the select button and it give you all the info.If you put the pioneer audio output as Pcm the machine decodes the audio but how can we tell if it really decodes dolby true hd? Everytime i read the manual there is not much refrence on dolby true hd but it's played back as dolby digital. Can anyone confirm that it does decode and what proof they have that it does?

Pioneer would not be legally be able to advertise a feature unless it was supported. In addition, it is and it does.

Re: Pioneer BDP-LX70 Does it decode Dolby True HD

I've always assumed that the BDPLX70 does output Dolby TrueHD, but the last post suggests otherwise?? - the guy says Pioneer themselves have told him is a no no for the LX70??

Quote from Pioneer UK website:

"The player supports Dolby TrueHD. This means that not only are you guaranteed full high definition video quality, but 'lossless' audio"...

I've always thought it a little odd that the LX70 does not carry the Dolby TrueHD badge on the facia or even on the box it comes in and there's nothing on the manual - it all refers to Dolby Digital Plus....if it does indeed decode TrueHD then why wouldn't they market this high end feature??

Please can someone clear this up..

Thanks

Re: Pioneer BDP-LX70 Does it decode Dolby True HD

firstly look at the new one thats coming out the lx70A and you would notice the logo.I had my suspicions about the lx70 becuase the manual doesn't show the Logo either and the manual kept referring the dolby true hd is played back as dolby digital so I had to do a bit of research.I then rang the technical department and the gentlemen there told me that It does not decode dolby true HD at all it supports it but it just comes out as dolby digital as the manual states. The new one does the LX70A which if you look has the logo.I sent an e-mail to avland which they have changed there website to reflect this.I peronally think it's a mistake, but anyway sold it and bought the best blu-ray player the ps3 which carries the dolby true hd logo and I known 110% decodes it.

Re: Pioneer BDP-LX70 Does it decode Dolby True HD

WB - I'm fully aware of the LX70A and it's decoding, but have always assumed LX70 does TrueHD but always thought it a little odd that there's no mention of it anywhere on the player, the box, the manual and the only place it is mentioned is on Pio's UK website.

I own an LX70 and can clearly hear a difference when playing a TrueHD track (Letter from Iwa Jima) via PCM MultiChannel in to my Arcam AVR350.

I have a feeling that you have been given incorrect information as many on these forums have stated that LX70 does decode TrueHD, but I would like an absolute definitive answer on this.

Hope you enjoy your LX70A

Thanks
Steve

This is what the amended manual says:

High quality audio
Blu-ray supports DTS, DTS-HD (DTS-HD is played back as DTS), Dolby
Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD (Dolby TrueHD is played back
as Dolby Digital, or as Linear PCM if you are connected via an HDMI
cable; for more information see About the audio output settings on
page 42), and Linear PCM audio in up to eight channels (up to two
channels for 24-bit/192 kHz audio). Connect this player to a surroundsound
AV receiver for a true home theater experience.
In order to take advantage of Dolby TrueHD audio, you will need to
use an HDMI cable to connect this unit to an HDMI-compatible AV
amplifier. After making the necessary connections, insert a Blu-ray
Disc that contains Dolby TrueHD audio, and choose ‘Dolby TrueHD’
from the disc menu.

Re: Pioneer BDP-LX70 Does it decode Dolby True HD

Tony, thanks for the amended manual wording, but I'm still not 100%....

So, if Im connected via the analogues from the LX70 in to AVR350 via it's multichannel inputs, and I have a BlueRay disc (Letter from Iwa Jima) and I select the LX70 to output PCM am I going to get the full Dolby True HD experience?

Please clarrify

cheers

From the pioneer technical department??? At the end of day im not here to argue, if your happy with your pioneer stick with it.There is the sony player that is half price of the lx70 that has been released in australia which carries also the dolby true hd logo,The ps3 does, the denon does, the older panasonic and sony don't which they don't decode it.Won't you ring the pioneer technical department there and ask them.I believe if the player carries the logo then it decodes dolby tru hd or like the upcoming one can stream it to the amps which can decode. The beginning of the manual does not show the dolby true hd in big bold black wording like dts dolby digital + and the certain other features.

Where do you get the amended manual and why did the gentlemen at the pioneer tech department assured me that it does not decode dolby true hd and the new one does? Where is the dolby true hd logo like the rest of the players that can decode it?
Suddenly the 70A carries it!

check this link out.The 'A' status shows dolby ture hd and dts hd but the lx70 don't!

It compares the lx70 and the lx70a.

The manual comes from Pioneer's own website.

The "gentlemen" in Pioneer's tech department rarely know very much about the products they are trying support. The TrueHD logo is in the errata amendment, I just didn't cut and paste it.

Re: Pioneer BDP-LX70 Does it decode Dolby True HD

WB - We're not here to argue, we're here to help each other out and find out for sure.

Like the vast majority of people on here, I have always thought the LX70 decodes Dolby TrueHD but have always thought it a little odd that there was never any sign of it's decoding abilities anywhere on the player/box/manual, so when I saw your post I began to question again.

I didn't want to say but Tony is quite correct, you will probably find that the majority of people on forums such as these actually know quite a bit more about the industry/products/technical abilities than the so called ' experts' on the end of manufacturer support lines.

My understanding is that (again from the manual) that the only way to get uncompressed 5.1 is via HDMI. Switching to PCM gives you stereo.

You should treat Pioneer's website with caution - it is frequently inaccurate.

When the LX508 was first put up, it said the resolution was 1365 x 768. I had to write in a tell them to change it fast.

The current low-end home cinema systems claim they offer "front stage surround" but they don't and never have. I could go on.....

If you ring Pioneer and ask where you can get their £800 pro DVD player from (the V8000 that we distribute) they will tell you to go to Currys or Comet.

Doesn't bode too well for their attempt to move up-market.

It defenitely does uncompressed pcm,I remember setting it on auto on hdmi and when choosing uncompressed pcm my amp picked it up as multichannel pcm and when choosing dolby true hd it streamed out as dolby digital.I chose then PCM setting but after reading that manual and talking to the technician I really was not satisfied. If what your saying tony that pioneer's website is inaccurate it's pretty bad on there side.I was talking to a member in the denon group regarding dolby true hd and he said to me that all players that decode or stream it to the amps to decode it will carry the logo on the player itself, manuals everything.I forgot ask that gentlemen if these companies require a license to have a dolby true hd logo.Does anyone know?

Re: Pioneer BDP-LX70 Does it decode Dolby True HD

Firstly I would like to thank pioneer Australia for basically swapping my lx70 for the 70A.I was correct, they admit that the lx70 did not decode dolby true hd.
