Re: Denon DVD3800BD worth preordering?

Getting back to the thread. I think the answer is no, but that begs the next question when will be right time to jump on the blu-ray train. How long do I wait? What am I waiting for? For me its just the True HD audio over HDMI which is what I thought the Denon would do.

Blimey wish I hadn't started.

I think HD audio bitstream will become a common feature on players released over the next couple of months. It may also be applied to some current players via a FW update.

The issue has been compounded by the need for HDMI 1.3a to support this feature. This is now starting to be a more common option on the recently announced players.

Personally what I'm waiting for -

Support for final standard profile (aka 1.1) - must have
Support for BDlive (aka profile 2) - must have
HD audio bitstream support over HDMI - must have
Feedback that the players operational perfromance is good even with BD-J titles - must have
1080p/24 - must have
Sensible price point - must have
Internal HD audio decoding for Dolby True HD and DTS HD MA - nice to have
Analogue 5.1/7.1 ouput - nice to have

BTW, the reason your Pearl is better than your old HS60 is probably more to do with a lot of other aspects of the projector than the difference in resolution.

That's why those 2 tests are important. They used projectors which were all but identical, other than the resolution.

So they were both 1080 native just having one set to 720 ! - isn't that just using the extra quality of the 1080 (dlp or sxrd Etc) panels being used helping the 720 pic looking better ??

No, one was 720p, and the other was 1080p, otherwise identical.

But both were fed a 1080i signal in the first, and a 1080p signal in the second (alongside some SD stuff, too).

Correct me if I wrong but the better Amp driving them the better sound you can expect (to the limit of their ability granted) I'd be interested to hear if anyone else agrees that I'm perhaps wasting money buying an Denon 3808 with the Kef 3005.1 speakers.
David,

I am basing my judgement on KEF 2005.2 'eggs' with a Denon 3803 which was my first AV setup 4/5 years ago, I had the full 7.1 setup initially and I was totally underwhelmed. After a week of stress over a bad decision I put back my main L/R speakers at that time Monitor Audio 3's £400 a pair at that time. The difference was chalk and cheese 'proper' wooden speakers designed for sound quality by reputable manufacturers make a great deal of difference over the wife/girlfriend friendly fashion designer speakers - I seriously doubt your compromise in speakers will reveal the real detail/ambience that is there in a high-quality source/amp setup.

I am willing to be shot down but this is based on experience don't believe the hype.
