Here's something interesting and it's contect shocked me if I am honest, in the past I had one of the older Oppo players, can't remember the model but they were always great with their service, however today I ordered the 980h but asked whether it was in fact the right choice, here's the response:
Andy,
For PAL performance, you will not want to purchase the DV-980H. This player does not support hardware de-interlacing and scaling of PAL 2:2 Cadence. This means that the resulting image may have interlacing or aliasing artifacts. Something like the DV-981HD (Faroudja DCDi) or the DV-983H (ABT VRS) will greatly enhance your PAL DVDs.
You may be interested in the BDP-83, as this player will support proper PAL decoding, while actually playing back Blu-ray films.
CRTProjectors.co.uk is selling modified BDP-83 players which can be made region free, but these players are not supported by OPPO Digital, Inc.

Subject: Product Advice
Hello,
I have just ordered the DV-980H for use with my 46" Samsung A Series LCD and although I have a PS3 and also a Toshiba HD-E1, I have never been truely happy with their performance with standard definition DVD's and I have an extensive collection, I was wondering whether you think I have made the right decision, it was a toss up with the 983 which was a bit out of my price range but based on what I have read, it seems that people are saying that the 983 will really only benefit people who use large displays such as the projector market?
I am curious as to your opinion, also I have ordered this from OppoShop, will it have the very latest firmware on board?
Best regards,
Andy
Is this just blatant product bashing?
The last firmware update certainly says it allows 2:2 cadence detection now and this was done with the help of someone at DVDTimes, so what do they mean by "it won't do 2:2"
