Unhappy Denon 1930 Lip Sync Issue

Hi all,

I have upgraded my setup and have a flatpanel TV, Denon 1930 with HDMI to the TV (1080P scaled) and the Denon set to output stereo audio via HDMI.

I use the optical digital feed to my Marantz amp and all seems well..

I also just upgraded to Sky+HD and use optical to the same AMP and scaled HD from HDMI.

On the STB I needed around 140mS of delay as per the STB UI to get LIP sync acceptable

I CANNOT find a lip sync setting on the DENON and find that lip sync is clearly off of the last couple of DVDs I have tried.

Has anyone experienced this before? The 1930 does have a full 5.1 decoder built-in and I am not using this. I understand the issues of timing and how this might all work, but it does seem the DVD is not compensating for any delay in the scaling/HDCP etc? I cannot remember if the 'stereo' output via HDMI is OK.. I believe it is...

I realise that new AMPs allow direct HDMI connection and even have lip sync adjustments, but without an external/AMP adjustment I do not seem to be able to compensate

BR

Re: Denon 1930 Lip Sync Issue

Ahh..

Just seen this thread Denon 1930 DVD player problem, advice needed.

So, are we saying that the 1930 has a fixed delay and this does not account for the scaling and HDCP delay encountered with the DVD-HDMI-TV link?

Ie as a vendor you can choose to have the audio exit digitally as per the disc, or as per the expected delay that the chain inc TV will give? (or give the user a bleedin' option!!!! just like Sky).

I am not compromising on connections for the lip sync to work (unless the decode and DAC is really good on the DENON unit)...

I do not need 1080p scaling. 720p is fine. I did this for some futureproofing. I was offered a Cambridge Audio player as being highly competitive and at least it weighed more.. (The 1930 is like a biscuit tin)..

Re: Denon 1930 Lip Sync Issue

Hi, has anyone used an external lip-sync adjustment device??

Any ideas of products?

I realise a new AMP would have this feature, but I have no intention of replacing this yet!

Cheers

Look up the old thread on lyp syc of this machine. I read that one guy bought a machine to compensate this but it costs over 100 pounds. Not really worth it I suppose.

Re: Denon 1930 Lip Sync Issue

I was wondering if its possible to use hdmi for the upscaled picture and phono for the audio to the tv. I wonder if the lip sync problems would still occour?
