New Denon DVD-1940 !

I just noticed that some new '40 series Denon DVD players are out now. Has anybody seen or heard one in action, esp. the 1940? I have been just about to pull the trigger on a Pioneer DV600, but I can afford the Denon if it's enough better than the DV600 to be worth it . . .

I notice that the net weight is 5.5kg, compared to 2.3 for the 1740 and 1.8 for the Pioneer - and that probably means higher quality parts . . .

Re: New Denon DVD-1940 !

Just been looking around the net and personally i cannot see any difference in the specs between the 1930/1940 except the afformentioned additional (doubled!) weight and 12 bit DAC rather than the 11 bit DAC (although both are 216MHz?)

Can anyone identify any real differences/improvements.

If it is a big step up i may sell/return my 1mth old 1930 and replace it with this bad boy. (I could always complain that the lip-sync problem became an issue...)

the old model is £80 at Richers, the new one is £135 at Superfi, so is that worth the extra cash or not?

EDIT: found it at £120 here:

Re: New Denon DVD-1940 !

The 1740 is the cheapest Denon I have seen with SACD/DVD-A compatibility.

As I mentioned on another thread, I am looking to change my Denon 2200 in for something that can skip through the annoying piracy ads at the start of DVDs - I wonder if this would fit the bill?

Re: New Denon DVD-1940 !

I'm a little disppointed it's still just HDMI 1.1. I was hoping the Denon players would be 1.2.

As an aside, What HiFi is promising a review in their next issue (out August 23rd):

The 1740 is not compatible with SACD or DVD Audio.

Those specs on HiFix are incorrect, and are actually for the 1940.

Re: New Denon DVD-1940 !

I'm thinking about going for the 1740, as I don't need SACD or DVD Audio. It would compliment my NAD stereo amp nicely.

I've heard good things about the sound quality of the 1730, due to the Burr Brown DACs, the 1740 features the same ones. I want to use the Denon to play MP3s, so sound quality is important. I won't be using it as a CD player though, as I already have a dedicated NAD CD player which is great.

Re: New Denon DVD-1940 !

I was just about to order the 1930 for £200 when i spotted the 1940 had appeared on Denon's website, pre-ordered the multi-region one from www.avland.co.uk for £210, should be released in next few weeks!

I currently have the 1720 multi-region and haven't had any problems or found a single disk it won't play!

I'd recommend a Denon player to anyone

Yes, the 1740 is DivX Ultra certified.

Specs - http://www.denon.co.uk/site/frames_m...detail&Pid=332

I'm probably going to go for the 1740 myself. Looks like a great machine.

Re: New Denon DVD-1940 !

Was just about to press the buy button on a Denon 1930 and then someone goes and mentions a 1940 coming out soon! Now holding out until I see this months What Hi-Fi which apparently has a review. Also have my eye's on the new Pioneer DV-600AV - If any one has seen one of these running and has any veiws I'd love to hear them.

I have just bought a component cable though, so it will be returned in favour of a new hdmi one. Will I notice much differnce between the QED HDMI-P and the QED HDMI-SR?? whatever player I do go for it will be plugged directly into my Pioneer 4270XD.

cheers

before you spend your hard earned cash on expensive HDMI cables, it may be worth doing a quick search in the cables forum for the many threads about HDMI quality which may help you out.

Re: New Denon DVD-1940 !

I was going to buy a 1930, I went into a Richer Sounds the other day but they were out of stock, and indeed the player is discontinued. Rather than buy a 1930 online and risk getting some kind of refurb I decided to order the new model 1940. The specs are more or less the same as the 1930 so I'm not worried about waiting for a review. I suspect this will be my last purchase of a standalone DVD player. I wanted to get something solid.
