Worried about my 1930 & 40w2000!!!

Dear All

I have been reading these forums for some considerable time now; and I think/hope that this has/will pay dividends (having just ordered a 40w2000 & 1930 dvd player).
HOWEVER, its blinking sods law that I have only stumbled upon the 'LIP SYNC WHEN UPSCALING VIA HDMI ON A DENON 1930' issue after purchasing the blooming kit!!!!
To be totally honest, I am slightly unsure of what I am going to find when I plug all this kit in on Sunday (holiday). I hear peole talking about manual timing adjustments to the speakers and such like but I would imagine that if various discs produce varying degrees of the problem then no 1 setting will remove the problem? Also, from what I have gleaned off of these forums is that the problem is induced when upsacling is applied.

Now...I understnd the concept of the sound arriving before the picture because the 1930 frist upscales to what ever resolution is selcted before it sends the picture to the LCD which then inturn upscales/adjusts it again to fit the screen. My question is...if the 1930 is upscaling to lets say 1080P (because thats the main reason I bought it to match my 40w2000) would the LCD (40w2000) need to apply any kind of further processing if the job is already done; thus reducing the process time; thus reducing lag?

I know htis has been touched on in previous posts but i cant seem to find a clear answer.

Your time & assisstance is appreciated.

I look forward to hearing form you.

Re: WORRIED ABOUT MY 1930 & 40w2000!!!

There was a big thread on this not so long ago its a pity you missed it, look it up and loads to read. But apparantely this dvd player is okay when hooked up directly to the tv. Its when connected for sound via an amp that doesnt have sync delay adjustment that is the problem. There is a machine you can pass the sound through and adjust it but its over 1oo pounds.

Re: Worried about my 1930 & 40w2000!!!

i wish you the best of luck. your tv is very good aparently in the LCD field. The denon 1930 has very good picture and it would be a shame to have lyp sync issues. I have the 1730 myself and it has a very good picture and sound.

Re: Worried about my 1930 & 40w2000!!!

Just to close this one out...
Al works really really well; no lip sync and no probs what so ever.

Have had to carry out extensive adjusting on the menus but all is good.

One thing thouhg... the PQ is good but not exactley mind blowing (as I had read and was subsequently expecting!). Are my settings wrong?

The 1930 is connected via QED HDMI to the w2000 in AV4 and the 1930 HDMI setting is up at 1080p. The sounds is connected via COAX to my Denon AVR and sound is superb. I have spent hours playing with ever possible combination on the TV & DVD settings butDVDs (such as NEMO) are still quite grainy...

Any suggestions.

Kind regards,

Deanoaldridge

Re: Worried about my 1930 & 40w2000!!!

on my 1730 denon in the setup menus under picture settings there is two settings for HDMI, try switching. I use component and the picture is outstanding, but i had to change the component settings. On the remote there is also a sharpness adjustment and that you have to have to the full.

Re: Worried about my 1930 & 40w2000!!!

OK..
there is an option on the 1930 setup to change a setting (although I cant remeber if its HDMI or SCART and Im at work and cant check) from Component to Interlaced to Progressive? not sure of it dopes anythin gthough?
As for the sharpness controll on the remote...I dont think the 1930 has one?

having just read apost about a guy who plugged his 1930 into his Tv and was blown away by happy feet 9along with his better half) I can only say that to date I am very far off this feeling? Even at 1080 resolutions!!!!

Re: Worried about my 1930 & 40w2000!!!

I've just hooked up my new 2930 to the DVI on my Hitachi plasma and sound via optical to my AVR 1507. I previously had a 1730 to the Hitachi, which was brilliant, but I am seriously blown away with the difference between these two machines. The Hitachi is only capable of 1080i and so far there is no lip sync problems. The picture quality is just astounding.

On mine the sharpness level is on the remote mode button, on top of the remote you press the arrow keys down to get to the sharpness control. set it to maximum. For the Hdmi settings press setup button remote, go to custom settings then display setting (tv icon) and go to hdmi select either ycbcr or rgb and hdmi picture to normal or enhanced according to what is the best picture. On mine the resolution for upscaling is actually not on the remote but on the player itself there is a button on the right of the machine (hdmi) set this to either 720P or 1080i

mine is the 1730 so maybe its a bit different

The 1730 never had any issues for me with lyp sync and i wouldnt keep the machine if it did. The 2930 is completely new technology and a price to match. It does pixel by pixel processing while the older faroudja chips only do line processing of what i heard. But correct me if im wrong but the 2930 is 4 times the price of the 1730. So if its 4 times the machine then its a good deal.

Had a real sit down to watch the 2930 for the first time last night. Played Simon and Garfunkel Old Friends DVD which was much played on the 1730. Picture was not that different, the transfer is pretty awful anyway but the sound was much deeper, seemed more like a concert, deeper music from the cello being more noticable. 'Kathy's Song' was somewhat muffled from the 1730 yet it was word perfect on the 2930.

Next came a few scenes from Gladiator. Again the sound in DTS was outstanding even hearing the straining wood when the bows were being drawn back in the battle scene. As for the image itself much much more detail and deeper colours, very evident in the scene with the tigers. Am I happy or am I happy.

The 1730 is now wired up via component to my Sony in the bedroom and doing sterling work.

PS Sorry to hijack this thread.

I also have the 1930 conected via hdmi & i got the grainy affect, but when i selected 576p on the dvd player the picture was a vast improvement

You could also connect the component & hdmi from the dvd to the tv together but leave the 1930 in hd mode @ 576p & on your tv remote select
component. I have wired it up this way & for some reason on my setup the picture quality is just fantastic

Re: Worried about my 1930 & 40w2000!!!

Will try the 576p setting tonight (although i am somewhat disaapointed to turn the upscaling down as this is the reason I bought the 1930!).

As for the DVD sharpness, I found it under the MODE button settings and played with it accordingly. As soon as I increased the sharpness form 0 to +1 & above the picture become increasingly worse (very very grainy and not pretty). Seems the best setting is to leave it at 0.
Not sure about this black enhancer on the dvd though...cant seem to fidn that (althugh there isa setting for it on the 40w2000).

NEMO looks pretty poor in all honesty...although Lord of the Rings is OK (just OK) and the Incredibles seems good (good meaning vbetter than OK but not JAW DROPPING as some have described!)
