Hi, Does anyone have this player and a Panasonic TH-42PX60 plasma. If there is anyone out there who does could they do me a big favour. Could you connect the dvd player to HDMI2 on the plasma and tell me whether or not the tv will output any sound.

Used to have this DVD player to a TH-42PX600 on HDMI2 and it worked no problem for sound via the HDMI when configured to output it on the DVD player, so it should be fine for you.

Thanks for the response, did you also have the dvd player connected to a system via the coax, mine is connected to s surround sound amp via coax and the tv via hdmi2. I think this could be causing the problems with the sound via the hdmi.

Just hooked up a 5960 to a new LCD - no sound on HDMI until changed 'digital output' to PCM only' - 'all' doesn't work on this set. You may have this set to output DD for your amp.

Yes I did. As Righty27 says you have to choose which output of audio you want, the co-ax or the HDMI. Both work but not together, with the offical firmware at any rate. Saying that I never actually tried to get both working at once as I never needed it.

I have set the digital output to PCM and disconnected the coax from the amp but I still do not get any sound from HDMI2, I can from 1 but not 2.

I don't want the hdmi and coax to work at the same time. I use the coax for dvd's with 5.1 but for avi files via the usb I just want the sound from the tv.

Off the top of my head, doesn't the manual mention something about difference between HDMI1/2? Not at hand but something registered when I scanned it giving impression that one should use HDMI2 for a DVI connection (with adapter). As DVI doesn't carry sound, could this be why ... after all, clearly your settings on other kit are OK as it works with HDMI1?!

Not got a 5960 anymore as it went back, but the replacement 5980 works over HDMI2. As I first said I've not quite got the same TV as you, I have the TH-42PX600 where as you have the TH-42PX60, no idea if there is a difference there in functionality over HDMI2.
