Cant seem to use my DVD/AMP via digital cable :(

Got a Tosh 220E DVD player and a Yamaha HTIB45 setup.

Just got a PS2 so thinking i will use that via the optical cable into my amp, then use a digi coax cable from the DVD. theorhetically should be all fine.

works fine with optical cable but absolutly nothing with the digi cable.

Are the digital inputs on the amp reassignable?

On my Yamaha (different model), I had to reassign the co-ax input from CD to DVD before it worked, otherwise, you will need to switch it to the correct input that is associated with the co-ax input.

Also, have you activated the digital outputs on the DVD player?

looking through the manual now (http://www.yamaha-audio.co.uk/pdfs/m...TR-5540RDS.pdf) i havent reassigned anything as i dont know how to?

is it possible to do what i am trying to do?

looking at the manual the only references to the digi coax are for CD inputs.

Ok, I have just downloaded the manual for your amp.

Does the sound work when you switch the amp to CD? If it does then you can either use it like that or you can start to reassign the digital connections.

You can only have one digital connection to each input (eg, co-ax to DVD, optical to CD) otherwise it might confuse the amp or disable one of the inputs.

On item 7 of the setup menu, you can assign the digital inputs. Just change the co-ax (D) to DVD and the optical (C) to CD or any other input that is available (apart from DVD)

if i reassign the coax to dvd then i presume that the optical would have to be assigned as CD. if that is the case will it not work with DTS/DD5.1 on the PS2 when i connect that through the optical?

Nope, this is not the case as the input selection (ie CD, DVD, VCR, etc) are just labels so you know what component you are using.

The decoders will decode DD 5.1/DTS no matter what input you assign to it as long as you turn the decoding on.
