Denon DVD-3800 Unofficial Website

Hi Chaps,

As I had some spare time, I knocked up a quick DVD-3800 unofficial website with firmware images and some setup tips...just a start for now, but once I get some more time I will add to it.

www.geocities.com/denon3800

Once I have a copy of the much awaited firmware (any day now) I will upload it onto the website for download...

Cheers

JJ

My aim was just to look after the 3800 model for now...

I know the others are similar, maybe when I get more time in the future I can add something

Chaps, please feel free to PM me with any ideas for more setup tips, or other content you think would be useful...I will try to add as much as possible, when I have the time

Next on my list is to try find and upload a pronto CCF for the DVD-3800 - can anyone help? (I have tried remotecentral.com )

Cheers

I have ccf for the pronto - i created the codes from the Denon IR manuals rather than by trying to "read" them from the remote, so they're perfect - i.e. not extra chars etc. PM me your email address and I'll send you the CCF and the IR codes from Denon as well

JJ...

Just need a little advice... I installed the July firmware without doing the October US chroma bug fix before it... Is it possible to install the October firmware and then the July firmware again after that?...Or should I wait for the December Fix?

From what I gathered, you needed to apply the US fix first then the MR firmware to get the full deal...not sure about how specifc the order bit is...I just created this recommedation based on what had been done as opposed to what wouldn't work. I would guess that what you have in mind would work though...

Personally I wouldnt do this, but I know people like IanG have, I think you would be better off waiting for the december firmware which will include everthing...this will be fully supported by Denon as well - unlike the older firmware versions

I've still got chroma....

I haven't yet upgraded to the combination US/MR firmware as I'm holding out for the unofficial euro version. I'm watching my DVDs on a Tosh 28" at the mo' so no pressing need to worry about chroma bugs (esp. as my youngster has decided to 'paint' on the TV screen with a magnet on Thomas The Tank engine..arghh!) Subtleties are lost at the moment.

Great site by the way..something I meant to do myself but hadn't got round to it..lacking that important ingredient 'spare time'. If you had the time to add the A-1 and 2800MkII firmwares too that would make it a great resource for worldwide Denon users.

Has anyone tried the firmwares for the 3800 from the italian site (afdigitale?) where the 2800MkII firmware came from? Would be intrigued to know if maybe this was the latest firmware?

Regards,

Ian Guinan

Just downloaded the Italian firmvare.
The 3800 files has the same name and is the same size as the July versions, so i guess there is nothing new about them.

JJ AND OTHERS

This may be of interest to all:
spoke to the distributor of Denon products in Australia and when I mentioned the problems the Americians are having he told me quote "they knew about it before it became a problem[ meaning Denon] he told me the problem with the US market is that its a RUSH to get a new machine on the streets before the other manufactures get their machines out[due to the large size of the market] and most times are being used as unofficial "BETA" testers for other markets like region4 in our case I was told our machines had the "Revised laser" prior to release here and not 1 machine has been back for repairs or the problems the USA are having being reported and told me "See there is an advantage in waiting a bit longer until they fix the problems" as I also mentioned the Denon 3803 due to release here in Feb03 why the wait!!
cheers laurie

cheers for the update laurie...I hope this is true...

I know markbuffy is using the latest firmware though (as he has a BIG denon dealer) and he is STILL having some probs with discs freezing etc...I hope these are disc issues and not 3800 specific!!!

Just Arrived

Okay...

This is the brand new December Firmware revision for the Denon 3800. I'm now working for the dealer I sought the firmware from in the first place, so after a quick phone call (to you know who) I was sent the disc the next morning. Amazing eh?

I also requested the Denon 2800MKII firmware for a customer as well. Download the files here:

http://www.geocities.com/mr_merrick

I have already updated my own 3800 with this firmware and it's running brilliantly...I'll report in more depth when I get the chance to watch Gladiator (R1) and Lord of the Rings: Extended Edition R1 Disc Two). Hopefully the freezing problem I've been having with these discs has been cured.

Regards

David

I believe the firmware will definately always be the same size and possibly even the name will be the same - depending on filename conventions and what sequence etc. the player will be looking for.

No change?

I've tried it (Mr_Merricks latest) and get just the same version no.s as before?
i.e.
ESS625P
PANEL6093
DRV6100
Display ESS720
Odd?

Thought a chroma fix would be a much more substantial update like the US one too?

Can't see any difference in the machine but then not running via a projector at the mo'

Any different experiences?

Ian Guinan

(I notice the files have the same date as the previous firmware I tested, however the italian files are of a more recent date 30/11/02 - maybe you've been given the old ones again? I may try the italian ones tomorrow night)

The Italian files are the same as the files Mr Merrick has posted (i.e. if you do a file compare, they're byte for byte the same). Has anyone else tried either of these (just wondering if Ian's update failed for some reason) or if these really are just the same old firmware which has been around for a while....

alpha10 - you and markbuffyfan definitely seem have the latest fimrware in terms or version numbers and I dont think anyone else has had versions as new as you (DRV6193-2) so the firmware must exist somewhere...

Personally I would think that markbuffyfan's dealer (a very big one) is bang up to date...if only mark could get hold of it somehow...

heres waiting

I also have the same firmware:

ESS 720N
DRV 6193-2
ESS 34625p
PANEL 6093-2

Got my DVD 3800 (with this firmware installed) from the dealer here in Oslo (Norway) in mid november, so if there is such a thing as a "december update" it should be newer than this...

The disc i borrowed the other day was from Hifi-klubben in Grensen, did you buy yours there or in Marcus Thranes gate?

The disc i borroved was the official software from Denon and turned out to be the July version.
The software on yours can be from Japan though.

KT66, have you had any troubles with your DVD3800?
I have had freezing on several movies, but Daylight region 1 DTS is the worst by far.
I guess i'll go over there now and ask if it is possible i got the wrong disc from them. I'll post later tonight to confirm if it was the correct disk.
