DAVS 550 Conundrum

I have been advised by Sony that I can take my machine in for modding, howver the service agent is not located conveniently for me and they needed a week to turn it round. The shop where I bought it says that they can now fix it in house uding a disc. However reading various forums it seem sthat the mod may requires a chip replacement, if this is the case I am a bit reluctant to let the shop try the fix using the disc. Does anybody know whether the cd fix works or whether I need to send the machine off for more involved work?

NEWS NEWS NEWS

Apparently the disc fix only works on some machines (not mine)!

So having taken it back to the shop I am now completely without my machine until they get replacements.

What a fiasco !!!
