new dvd player

Looking for my first dvd player, considering a pioneer dv 550 it`s the replacement for the dv 545. I have a Panasonic 32 inch w/screen TV model TX 32pb50. I am sure I read on the forum that pioneer DVD’s & Panasonic TV’s don’t work together very well; can anyone help or recommend an alternative?
